North Korean Test Was Intel Windfall for Red China
Human Events Online ^ | July 10, 2006 | Ed Timperlake

As co-author of Showdown: Why China Wants War With the United States, I have argued that the real villain behind last week’s North Korean missile test is Red China. Why? Because the tests were undoubtedly an intelligence windfall for the Communist regime in Beijing.

[snip]

As a result of the tests, the PRC got a free look at U.S. capabilities. The PRC saw which military resources the U.S. committed, which tactical weapons were deployed, (ships, air and land-based systems), which frequencies [were] used (to be jammed in time of war). They also got to see how quickly and accurately we identified and tracked the North Korean missiles.

And today we're hearing that China is accusing the UN of overreacting to the missile tests.

Intelligence windfalls work both ways.

So let's see. China supposedly now knows everything about how we will react in time of crisis. They know our weapons deployment strategy, frequencies used to intercept telemetry and communications etc. And we are supposed to believe that WE didn't know the Chinese would be looking for this so we did NOTHING to decoy or otherwise send them misinformation?

Geez, as stupid as we are it's amazing we ever won anything on the battlefield.

Now if North Korea could just get them to remain in the air long enough for us to shoot them down, they would really get some information they might not be able to deal with. Seriously, we also got much information about China's response to our deployment and assistance to Japan as they got watching us. Its like calling a time out after you set up the inbounds play just to see the defense reaction. The defense also sees how the offense prepares.

He quickly traipses off into the bushes here: which tactical weapons were deployed, (ships, air and land-based systems), which frequencies [were] used (to be jammed in time of war).

Frequencies? Tactical weapons? He uses words he has no real understanding of how these "things" tie in to the scenario. If China is gathering intel on that part of our Missile Defense, they are waaaaaaaaaay behind the power curve.

Yes, V3. Yes! We got a little 'windfall' of our own.

I hope Kim keeps on launching his pathetic rockets. Of course, whatever intel we gather today will be splashed all over the NYT front page tomorrow.

The culprits behind the Axis of Evil are Russia and China. We should start viewing them as enemies rather than competitors.

They always use surrogates to fight their battles. In 1950 it was North Korea and that set up the situation that exists today. In the 1960s -1970s it was Vietnam. Now it is still Korea and also the Islamists.

Behind it all are still the same hands, Russia and China.

Timperlake may me overstressing the benefits to China. US deployments while monitoring a missile test do not equate to the disposition of US forces during an all-out shooting war versus China.

agree completely with this article. Why open society and fall from power when one could launch a war to secure the persiangulf to china passage and assure a continous oil supply. OTH. thats a long artery to maintain in wartime conditions when fighting REAL naval forces ie Japan and US. Said it since 01, this is all just preliminary to a massive world war.

"US deployments while monitoring a missile test do not equate to the disposition of US forces during an all-out shooting war versus China."

Preferably the only forces deployed in an all out shooting war with China would be the subs. Let them try to monitor them - much less stop them. (24 Tubes each times 10 MIRVs per tube.)

Granted, but he (and his publishers*) knows how to strike while the iron is hot, i.e. push...push...pushing his book. This guy is all over the TV/radio talk-show circuit, milking this thing for all it's worth.

(*Who, I wouldn't be surprised to learn, assigned him to write this book.)

It's certain that our Armed Forces were entirely aware of what they were showing to the ChiComs. Recently the U.S. held a huge military exercise over Alaska and the Bering Straits area which included the F-22 Raptor doing some pretty amazing things. Think we wanted the Chinese and the Russians to see what that platform can do as a warning and morale destroyer? I think so.

I think we're down to about 4 MIRVs per tube (due to treaties), but I get your point.

The test was also an intelligence winfall for the Russians and Iranians.

The Russians have the MiG 1.44 system, which is comparable to the F-22. While technically not active (According to the Russians), we can still bet that the Russians have some of these that can fly. The Russians have always done this with their new aircraft.

China has active J-xx aircraft as well.
