CNN ^

"The United Nations has agreed to rename Auschwitz concentration camp to stress that Nazi Germans, not Poles, were responsible for the world's most notorious death camp, Poland's Culture Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Auschwitz Concentration Camp", a U.N. heritage site, will be renamed "the Former Nazi German Concentration Camp of Auschwitz", the ministry of culture said in a statement."

"Poles, Gypsies, homosexuals and Russians also died at the camp."

And who says the media doesn't have an agenda?

This is not PC in my opinion. It puts the blame squarely where it should be : on the Nazi's who were Germans.

To call these camps anything less today is PC.

I guess the Poles are worried about the airheads of the future who will have difficulty grasping why a German concentration camp was located in present-day Poland.

I don't know anyone who visited Auschwitz and came thinking that the Poles had anything to do with such atrocities. Nevertheless, I have no objection to clarifying the subject for the few morons out there.

They "forgot" to mention the Catholic priests who were executed at Auschwitz, such as St. Maximilian Kolbe. Hmmmm . . . maybe that's not part of the agenda.

It's not political correctness. It's just correctness.

In fact, calling it a "name change" isn't even accurate. The name has been made more precise. They have revised and extended the name to make it much more precise.

I thought that they would want the name changed to "Oswiecim".

After Poland was defeated by Nazi Germany in 1939, the territory of Oswiecim was annexed to Germany and the name was changed to Auschwitz.

After the defeat of Nazis in 1945, Auschwitz together with other lands like Silesia, Pomerania and part of East Prussia was joined to Poland. The names were changed to Polish. Auschwitz back to Oswiecim, Breslau to Wroclaw, Danzig to Gdansk etc ...

So the German camp in Auschwitz WAS NOT on Polish territory.

I was interetsed in the fact that Auschwitz is a UN National heritage site.

The way the UN hates the Jews I am surprised they dont call it a shrine.

I visited a concentration camp near Gdinya, Poland last month (I can't remember the exact name of the camp). Very emotional tour. The thought never occured to me that the Poles were responsible.
