"The United Nations has agreed to rename Auschwitz concentration camp to stress that Nazi Germans, not Poles, were responsible for the world's most notorious death camp, Poland's Culture Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Auschwitz Concentration Camp", a U.N. heritage site, will be renamed "the Former Nazi German Concentration Camp of Auschwitz", the ministry of culture said in a statement."

Sadly there are many out there who actually believed that Poles cooperated with the Germans in killing the Jews. That is why the name change is necessary, sad but true.

Nothing about the professors that were Jews to be killed in one week.

Or all the Catholic priests that were transported there and were killed after one month.

Those numbers are from a book I am reading by Paricia Treece about St. Macimillian Kolbe, a Catholic priest who gave his life in place of another prisoner. Great read and lots of history too -- "A Man for Others".

"Poles, Gypsies, homosexuals and Russians also died at the camp."

They listed Russians even behind homosexual nation :) Rubbish media :)

You are referring to Jedwabne?

As to the article itself: Could it have a more idiotic title? How can one "win" a name change? What was second prize?

Personally, I think the name change on some obscure UN list doesn't matter much at all. I think that either way the subject of Auschwitz should be worth 5 minutes of one's time to explain what happened there and, of course, who the perpetrators were. If that's asking to much, maybe one better shouldn't mention Auschwitz at all...

I don't hold CNN or any "Mainstream" Liberal Western media in high regard.

However, when it comes to Aushwicz, while a slaughterhouse for millions of people, it's first and foremost a Jewish tragedy. The majority of those perished in this horrible place were Jews murdered simply for being born Jews.

Definitely there were also Poles, Soviet POW's (Russians, Ukrainians, etc) and other groups who died in Aushwicz.

However, no other group was targeted for a complete exterminations by Nazis as were Jews and it must be remembered.

Not to search far away. Read comment 26 here and you'll find Jewish American FReepers who think these were Polish camps.
