Lebanon's Ambassador to US called back to Beirut
JPost ^ | July 12, 2006 | JPost Staff

Lebanon's Ambassador to the US Farid Abboud was summoned back to Beirut on Wednesday night after expressing his support for Hizbullah in the US media.

Abboud was reported as saying that Israel was the only one who could bring about the release of the kidnapped IDF soldiers by agreeing to negotiate with the movement via mediators.

Officials in Beirut stressed that Abboud's view did not represent that of Lebanon, which is vehemently opposed to Hizbullah's actions on Israel's northern border.

Sure, that would be my guess.

I also think Israel will declare war on Lebanon.

I could be wrong, but that is my guess at this point.

It is also possible that the Arab league will allign themselves with Lebanon and we could see a regional war evolve. Not as likely as the above, but possible.
I bet that nut in Iran is chaffing at the bit right now and trying to convince the Mullahs it is in Iran's best interest to come to the direct aid of Hezbullah.

another unwelcome and heavily-armed guest might just do it for them.

Israel is not likely to stay in Lebanon for a long time. Just long enough to clear out Hezbullah. It long past time to declare Islam an affront to humanity and to convert or kill all of it's followers.

Interesting how so many historical revisionists wish to pin the blame on Israel

Even if the history's only a few hours old...:)

In January, the party leadership decided that they would capture Israeli soldiers in exchange for Lebanese prisoners. They would attack at the earliest possible time, and today happened to be that day. The Hezbollah leadership was entirely caught off guard.

nit wits...

Just heard CNN frame it this way just moments ago:

"Israel all but declaring war on Lebanon"

I'm am pretty sure what Hezballah did today was the first shot over the bow.

Leave it to CNN to twist it out of the starting gate.

There were NO NUCLEAR BOMBS 1930-1941, 1860-1865, 1773-1780-ish, etc. And you forgot WWI, didn't you? No, the world is much smaller now than ever before, sam.

Better to happen now, than 10 years from now when both sides have piles of nuclear weapons, in that case they would definately glass each other over to the detriment of the entire worlds poulation.

WW-ONE didn't turn out to be a threat to our homeland until 1941. Chew on that.

600,000 American soldiers dead (and untold civvies) in The War Against the States was GD scary! That's all I'm saying.

I'm not saying 21st century war isn't scary, I'm just saying that if the world goes hot-nuke, then it won't last nearly as long as those wars, and there's no place on this earth I'd rather be afterwards than here.

"How to get rid of this unwelcome and heavily-armed guest? Well, another unwelcome and heavily-armed guest might just do it for them."

Been there, done that. Operation Peace for the Galilee http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_1967to1991_lebanon_plo.php.

Those who don't complete military operations are doomed to repeat them.

Good link...

People were asking what the recall of hizbollah-friendly ambassador meant ...

"Even more, Lebanese Ambassador to the United States Farid Abboud has been recalled from his position, which is a coup for the 14 March politicians. Abboud is a close ally of Syrian appointed Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, who is Hezbollah's closest Christian ally. Sanioura was previously unable to remove Lahoud from office, but because of actions he took in Washington, DC today (I don't know the specifics) he has been recalled."

Yeah I am trying to keep track of what the bloggers in Lebanon are saying. I am sensing there is some real interesting and delicate balancing acts that Israel is trying to do with certain faction in the Lebonese Governement. Sadly, though the Lebanese army is so undermanned and ill trained I don't think it could take advantage of an opening that israel would provide

hmmm, the news reports (Fox) is Israeli warplanes hit Beirut airport. This is imho a wrong approach, they should go after hizbollah in the south only and not hit beirut. It's not a matter of military strength, but if israeli can destroy hisbollah as a force in lebanon politics. mainly that is what israel is trying to do.

hizbollah leader calling for negotiation. negotiation via JDAM seems in order.

YEah, I mean it will seem to me that the proper thing to do would be stay away fom the City and only strike if nescessay in the suburbs where the bad guys have controll. Other than that attack in the South and make sure and maybe bomb them in the areas where they just can't run and hide in Beriut. Of course I am not sure if Israel wants to do something that sustained

Hmm well it appears Israel just basically closed the whole airport now. there is a seperate thread on this airport bombing but I am a afraid my questioning view of this action would not be welcomed. It seems to me that now there are probally a bunch of early tourist crowd from abroad that is stuck there. That doesnt sound good. Plus, I am not sure how much the Lebanese Govt can do in reality.

I see how this may make sense, Israel is saying Hizbollah wants to move soldiers to Iran. They are shutting down hizbollah's escape routes.
