The Vatican invented diplomacy, they are always on both sides of the fence. They have to play this game because they have no military and they have followers in every corner of the world.
That is way too wishy-washy for me. Besides, the Vatican statement was not diplomatic at all!!
You mean some people are sitting in Lebanon and just waiting for the head of their church to say something to define the situation for them, for it would not otherwise be clear?; not even morally clear?
They are ignorant of what's going on and who is doing what and who has done what and when, and how? And unless some priest gives his moral view for them then God has abandoned them?
I cannot believe anyone operates their own life with God needing to hear a public statement from the head of their church on such a situation as is now going on in Lebanon.
A Christian, a Catholic a man of God from any religion is not so morally blank and empty, on their own, nor is an informed moral view from their own relationship with God missing in these moments either.
A truly spiritual statment would have said: "We condem all acts of unnecessary violence as should everyone." Period.
