Wilson and Plame Want Help Paying for Lawsuit

This remains a nation of laws," former Ambassador Joe Wilson said on Friday -- and it also remains a nation of lawsuits, as Wilson demonstrated at a press conference in Washington.

Wilson invited reporters to hear why he and his wife Valerie Plame are suing Vice President Dick Cheney, presidential adviser Karl Rove, and former vice presidential aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court on Thursday, accuses Cheney, Rove and Libby of conspiring to "discredit, punish and seek revenge" against Wilson -- for his criticism of the Bush administration as it built its case for the war in Iraq.

At the press conference on Friday, Wilson said the alleged "attack" on him and his wife "was based on lies and disinformation and included the compromise of Valerie's identity as a classified officer of the Central Intelligence Agency."

Wilson said administration officials' "abuse of power for personal revenge broke faith with their obligations as public servants to uphold and defend the Constitution."

Wilson said the lawsuit is about the pursuit of justice. In the next breath, he asked for help in defraying costs associated with the lawsuit.

Plame and Wilson have set up a website to help them "pay for the substantial legal costs associated with the illegal leaking of Mrs. Wilson's classified CIA status."

The website says if Wilson and Plame win a bundle in court, they'll return the money to the trust they've established - and distribute it to a charity that "works to protect government whistleblowers' First Amendment rights and helps to defend them from retaliatory action."

According to Friday's Washington Post, Plame and Wilson are seeking unspecified monetary compensation for a "gross invasion of privacy" that could jeopardize the safety of their children and make Plame a target for America's enemies.

Funny, isn't it, that the DUpes are all worried about the supposed exposure of Plame, and the "danger" that it put her in, but they don't seem to have any problem when the New York Slimes exposes critical portions of our anti-terrorist strategy that puts untold numbers of American citizens in danger. Damned hypocrites.

I was thinking this morning about all the people the Clinton machine rolled over. Paula Jones, Linda Tripp, the woman he groped in the hall, her name escapes me. Isn't is funny how if you:

- accuse a Democrat, you get the "nuts and sluts" treatment from the Dem hacks and the media.

- accuse a Republican, you get basically martyrs treatment by the media and the rats.

What would the world would think of Valerie Plame right now if Bush were a Democrat?

Bias doesn't get much more obvious than that. At that, in Juanita's case, you would be making that comparison between a rape allegation and essentially revealing Valerie's name is published in a Who's Who directory. Not exactly moral equivalents.

Unbelievable..

My guess is that the MSM is not happy with these two. Too many of their own will be questioned.

If the suit is not dismissed out of hand.

The first book deal collapsed. Now Simon & Shuster has offered them a deal, which explains the lawsuit. They had to have promised to generate some type of publicity.

From my files...

Butler Report:

It is accepted by all parties that Iraqi officials visited Niger in 1999. The British Government had intelligence from several different sources indicating that this visit was for the purpose of acquiring uranium. Since uranium constitutes almost three-quarters of Niger’s exports, the intelligence was credible.

The Butler Report affirmed what the British government had said about the Niger uranium story back in 2003, and specifically endorsed what Bush said as well.

By extension, we conclude also that the statement in President Bush’s State of the Union Address of 28 January 2003 that “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa” was well-founded.

Senate Committee:

The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence reported July 7, 2004 that the CIA had received reports from a foreign government (not named, but probably Britain) that Iraq had actually concluded a deal with Niger to supply 500 tons a year of partially processed uranium ore, or "yellowcake." That is potentially enough to produce 50 nuclear warheads.

The Senate report said the CIA then asked a "former ambassador" to go to Niger and report. That is a reference to Joseph Wilson -- who later became a vocal critic of the President's 16 words. The Senate report said Wilson brought back denials of any Niger-Iraq uranium sale, and argued that such a sale wasn't likely to happen. But the Intelligence Committee report also reveals that Wilson brought back something else as well -- evidence that Iraq may well have wanted to buy uranium.

Wilson reported that he had met with Niger's former Prime Minister Ibrahim Mayaki, who said that in June 1999 he was asked to meet with a delegation from Iraq to discuss "expanding commercial relations" between the two countries.

Based on what Wilson told them, CIA analysts wrote an intelligence report saying former Prime Minister Mayki "interpreted 'expanding commercial relations' to mean that the (Iraqi) delegation wanted to discuss uranium yellowcake sales." In fact, the Intelligence Committee report said that "for most analysts" Wilson's trip to Niger "lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal."

He (the intelligence officer) said he judged that the most important fact in the report was that the Nigerian officials admitted that the Iraqi delegation had traveled there in 1999, and that the Nigerian Prime Minister believed the Iraqis were interested in purchasing uranium, because this provided some confirmation of foreign government service reporting.

Both the US and British investigations make clear that some forged Italian documents, exposed as fakes soon after Bush spoke, were not the basis for the British intelligence Bush cited, or the CIA's conclusion that Iraq was trying to get uranium.

OMG - I followed the link and read how many, many of those folks are going to send money to the Wilsons! Once again, the shameless win out because so many are so silly. Truly sad.

I wonder why she would quit the CIA because of this non-story?

Oh well, her choice, and her consequences.

I am astonished, though, that they are asking people to help pay for their lawsuit. THAT is remarkable.

Based on what I know about the people at DU, anyone who said they donated money is probably lying.

"You mean his attorney isn't on a "you don't pay if you don't win" fee schedule? Smart attorney."

Yeah I would think they had a hack Democrat attorney willing to do this pro bono.

Money down a 'rat hole. Better they throw their money at the Wilsons than, say, contribute to Dem congressional campaigns.

The only reason for this lawsuit is because they had a book deal but the publishers would only advance them the money if someone was indicted for the "leak" but that deal looks to be dead now. A bit over a month ago they were cheering when they thought Rove had been indicted but that fell apart quick and then their only hope was Novak would claim it was a conspiracy but that too failed.

Asking for donations?

Grandpap always said, "If your lawyer won't represent you on a contingency basis, you don't have a case."

Do you think they already know what Grandpap knew?
