DAYTON State Rep. Dixie Allen of Jefferson Twp. switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican Friday and plans to screen Saturday for an appointment to take over the Montgomery County Commission seat of recently retired Vicki Pegg.
State Rep. John White of Kettering, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party, said Allen "is the favorite and front-runner" for the county commission appointment because of her experience and "the level of respect she has earned as a legislator and community activist."
Allen, a retired Wright-Patterson Air Force Base manager, has been a member of the Ohio House of Representatives since 1998. She could not seek re-election to her House seat this year because of term limits.
Allen said she has been considering a party switch for some time because she has come to agree more with Republicans than Democrats on budget and fiscal issues. She said she had planned to switch after leaving office, but decided to make the change immediately after members of the local Republican Party approached her about the possible appointment to the Montgomery County Commission.
If Allen is appointed to the commission, she will have to run in the November general election for the right to complete the last two years of Pegg's term.
That's good news, I had an old clipping of the effect Clinton had on the democrat party, it was staggering, the number of lost state legislatures, governorships, congressional and senate seats.
The AP was trumpeting a Republican switching to Dem last week.
I wonder if they will push this?
Ohio ping!
Here's a little bit of good news. More power to Dixie Allen.
just wondering who the R to D was.
