The recent outburst of violence in the Middle East might look like just another one of those cyclical rounds in which Arabs and Israelis grab at each other's throats. Yet at stake is something much more serious: the ability and the willingness of Arabs to accept the existence of Israel in their midst.
Twice in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, in 1948 and in 1967, the Arabs tried to destroy Israel. In 1948 there was a premeditated plan resulting in a concerted attack by five armies, charging the newly-born Jewish state from all directions. The Arabs of Haifa, for example, were advised by their "brothers" in Syria to leave temporarily to Beirut, because, they boasted, "in two weeks we will throw the Jews into the sea."
The rest is history. When the war was over, the Jews had the land, and the Arabs of Haifa, their children and their grandchildren became refugees in Lebanon. The anniversary of 1948, which in Israel is celebrated as Independence Day, is mourned by Palestinians as Naqba (Arabic for catastrophe).
The Six Day War was not planned, but was rather an escalation. President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt intoxicated himself and the Arab masses into believing that this time Israel could be knocked out. When the guns went silent, the Arabs once again had reasons to regret their aggression, with the West Bank and Gaza in the hands of Israel.
Since then, we have had the Yom Kippur War, the Attrition War, the Lebanon War, two intifadas and endless terror. Israel has not only survived, but has become stronger.

very good read.. if anything the Israelis are seasoned survivalists, with history and God on their side.
I wonder how strong Israeli intelligence is in Lebanon.
Everyone in this fracas thinks God is on their side.
well, it's not looking good for the Arabs.. with all thier threatening and screaming... Isreal has the upper hand,.. as always. LOL.. and every fn Arab state is calling for restraint on the Israelis, prportionate force and such.. just what the hell is that? when you go to war you go in and destroy and overwhelm the enemy. that's how wars are won. boohoo they stepped in shit and now they complain about the smell.
"Don't mess with Knesset", doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but this talk sounds a lot like the "Lone Star" State.
LOL that's the mother of all stars there..
Israel IS using proportionate force; When someone says they will destroy you by any means at their disposal you protect yourself by any means at your disposal.
What the Arabs want is 5,000 Israelis with baseball bats against 500,000 Arabs with baseball bats.
Yes, but one god has a 0-6 record and the other god is 6-0. You decide who the "Big G" god is.
More have died in the name of faith than any other reason since the begining of time.
My money would still be on the Israelis.
The One True God is on their Side.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Shalom Israel
man.. the arabs are cowards. one little country against how many surrounding big countries? Godspeed Israel
Only one side clearly does.
every nation in the world is watching this, and I'm sure a lot of them are just wondering what the hell were the arabs thinking.. LOL
Israel is the chosen.
Oh So True!!!
I truly hope the Israelis factor into any ground campaign a response to the Islamofascist IED tactic. Israel, being a small nation, must rely on swift, aggressive tactics...mobilization pretty much shuts down the civilian economy. They put a high priority on minimizing their casualties since their population is so small and heavy losses would provide fodder for Labor leftists to sway the electorate back to the rabbit hole we call 'the peace process'.
With 5,000 Hank Greenbergs I'd be with you.
