9 killed in rocket attack on Haifa

GAMLA: News and Views from Israel

Attack on north resumes: Rockets fired by Hizbullah terrorists from Lebanon land in Haifa; police say nine killed, dozens injured in strike. Israel TV reports of casualties in city. Nahariya, Kiryat Bialik also targeted; additional Katyushas apparently strike Akko area

A siren was heard across Haifa Sunday after a Katyusha rocket fell in the area. Security forces said at least ten Katyusha rockets fell on the Haifa area.

Police said that nine people have been killed and dozens have been injured.

Police say nine people have been killed at the train depot. The rescue of the injured is being delayed after many people abandoned their vehicles due to rockets, leaving them on the road to the Rambam hospital.

The Katyusha barrage also struck Naharia, Kiryat Bialik (check post), Akko, and Rosh Hanikra.

The simultaneous attack took place shortly after 9 a.m. in the morning. Phone networks in the area have been affected.

Ofir from Haifa said: "I see the train depot downtown, on the train tracks. There were four hits and smoke is rising. Hizbullah apparently aimed for the oil refineries."

Karen from Haifa said: "We heard a rocket explode in the harbor area and then in the port."

Over 700 rockets have been fired since the beginning of fighting on the northern border, and the IDF does not rule out that the rockets may reach further south than Haifa. "Areas south of Haifa will receive an advanced warning in the form of a siren," Home Front Commander Yitzhak Gershon said.

The only people right now standing up and fighting the Ayotollah's is the Kurds.
I keep saying, Bush needs to support a Kurdish state in Iraqi Kurdistan.
No Americans have been killed there.
Read this article from last month.

Opinion: My tired brain tells me that this is a global jihad and the war is against the global jihad. Mr. Olmert may have been thinking of a larger picture than just Syria and Iran.

Time will tell.

We should lend Israel a few B-52's and let them carpet bomb southern Lebanon until all rocket attacks cease.

Agreed. Sterilize every sq meter south of the Litani River.

Iran warns Israel of “unimaginable losses” if Syria attacked
AFP ^ | July 16, 2006

Posted on 07/16/2006 2:16:47 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Iran warned its arch-enemy Israel Sunday of “unimaginable losses” if it attacks Syria adding that the Islamic republic was “standing by the Syrian people”.

“We hope the Zionist regime does not make the mistake of attacking Syria, because extending the front would definitely make the Zionist regime face unimaginable losses,” foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

“Iran is standing by the Syrian people,” he added.

“We have offered and will offer Syria and Lebanon spiritual and humanitarian support,” Asefi said, reiterating Iran’s denial that it is providing military and financial assistance to the Hezbollah movement.

He also hit out at the United States after President George W. Bush said Israel had “every right to defend itself”.

“The United States has had a destructive role by vetoing resolutions and hence encouraging the Israeli crimes,” Asefi said, referring to Washington’s use of its veto in the UN Security Council Thursday to block a resolution calling for a halt to an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“The United States should reconsider its policies and correct its wrong attitude of supporting the Zionist regime.”

Syria threatens firm response to any IDF attack
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
DAMASCUS, Syria

Syria's government on Sunday promised Israel a firm and immediate retaliation for any possible attack on its territory.

"Any aggression against Syria will be met with a firm and direct response whose timing and methods are unlimited," Syria's official news agency quoted Information Minister Mohsen Bilal as saying.

Israel earlier accused Syria and Iran of supporting Hizbullah.

If Olmert pulls a Carter, and only limit his attacks to bombings in Lebanon, his administration will fall apart overnight.

It would pave the way for return of "Bibi".

IDF sources revealed that the seven rockets that landed in Haifa on Sunday morning were Fajar rockets, and not Katyushas. The Fajar rockets have a range of around 40 kilometers and carry more explosive material than Katyusha rockets.

Good morning! Thanks for all the updated coverage. I'm trying to keep it quiet, so the tv isn't on yet.

Sooo, who makes Fajar rockets? Imo, they've all got their filthy hands in this. GS-prayers sent up for your family's safety!

Israel must defend itself but this war is having a bad effect on our economy. At some point I think I want to see a cease fire.

I predict there will be great outrage over the senseless killing of civilians by the self-righteous arbiters of humanitarianism. Or maybe celebrating.

Its very difficult to silence a TV station short of an EMP pulse. I imagine the Hezbullies are broadcasting from a bunker

They gotta have an antenna exposed somewhere. And homing missiles, like our HARM, just love to home in on active antennas.

where is the media crying about how they (hamas) are killing innocent cvilians?

No, No, No, No!!!! Don't you know that it's only "innocent civilians" when the evil, zionists shoot back at terrorists civilains who just happen to be shooting rockets, or planting bombs, because they don't have any choices: They've been so oppressed that the only jobs available are to kill Jewish children. Besides, it's so much better to shoot and and kill Jewish children, since they usually don't shoot back.
