Iran warns Israel of “unimaginable losses” if Syria attacked

Iran warned its arch-enemy Israel Sunday of “unimaginable losses” if it attacks Syria adding that the Islamic republic was “standing by the Syrian people”.

“We hope the Zionist regime does not make the mistake of attacking Syria, because extending the front would definitely make the Zionist regime face unimaginable losses,” foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

“Iran is standing by the Syrian people,” he added.

“We have offered and will offer Syria and Lebanon spiritual and humanitarian support,” Asefi said, reiterating Iran’s denial that it is providing military and financial assistance to the Hezbollah movement.

He also hit out at the United States after President George W. Bush said Israel had “every right to defend itself”.

“The United States has had a destructive role by vetoing resolutions and hence encouraging the Israeli crimes,” Asefi said, referring to Washington’s use of its veto in the UN Security Council Thursday to block a resolution calling for a halt to an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“The United States should reconsider its policies and correct its wrong attitude of supporting the Zionist regime.”

General Patton perhaps said it best:

"It seems to me a certainty that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of the Arab women are the outstanding causes for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly as he was around the year 700, while we have been developing."

Truer words seldom spoken.

"started by the Israelis"

I see where you're coming from. Perhaps you havent been watching closely enough. The Hamas precipitated the current conflict by crossing the israeli border, attacking an israeli military encampment and kidnapping an israeli soldier. That was rightly considered an act of war by the israelies. The Hezballah similarly precipitated the second front with another cross border casus belli.

Perhaps you are unaware that the Hamas and the Hezballah are state sponsored proxies. Beginning with China who sponsors North Korea who sponsors Iran who sponsors Hamas and Syria who sponsors the Hezballah. And Lebanon has violated the UN BINDING MANDATE to dismantle the hezballah infrastructure. Is it complicated? Yes it's complicated and purposefully so because they realize we do not have the attention span to track that kind of proxy support.

I'm trying to offer you the benefit of the doubt here. The Lebonese Government is responsible for the actions of the Hezballah. If the Lebonese are whining because their infrastructure is being dismantled, maybe they should have thought of that before they allowed the Hezballah to fester along the israeli northern border.

Thank you, Jimmie Carter. I hope you're proud of the world your policies created.

How different this world would be today if Carter had taken his job seriously on Nov 5, 1979!!!!

You are ignoring the fact that the Israelis obviously had to have been preparing for this particular operation for months at least. For the logistics involved if for no other reason.

While the Israelis have reasons to attack the terrorists, it is not the terrorists or their supporters that they are targeting. They are deliberately destroying the infrastructure of an area that has become an economic competitor to them. Sort of like Exxon calling in air strikes against Shell oil facilities.

Your are listening to the rhetoric of politicians who like to hear the sound of their own voices. Follow the money.

Worst case scenario-- This escalates over the next 30 days to where the end game becomes us bombing to sh!t Iran's nuclear facilities. I promise you that ultimate scenario is being war gamed intensely by American military and Israeli military

------------------------------------------

While a possibility your scenario is nowhere near the top of the worst-case list.

This is bigger than just going after Iran.

Oh, I completely agree with you! No doubt, if this blows up, it will be the fight for control of the Muslim world.

I know the media and most people spell it:

HEZBOLLAH

The *real* name is:

HEXBALLAH

Only the Iranians would use Allah's name in a terror group.

Are we willing to go to nuclear war to support Israel? Actions have consequences, you would have thought we would have learned that already from 911.

Are you willing to wait around for 2 or 3 more years until Iran has a stockpile of nukes and the ICBMs to deliver them anywhere on the planet? Are you willing to let the moron in Tehran wipe Israel off the map and suffer 7 million casualties before we take action to prevent it? The time to act is NOW while we have an overwhelming military advantage, not years from now when the mullahs will have the ability to take out our major cities and kill millions of Americans.

We did what you seem to be advocating in the 1930s when Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini were building the most powerful military forces the world had ever seen, and it cost incalculably more in human life and treasure to stop them later than it would have cost to nip them in the bud.

Iran warns Israel of “unimaginable losses” if Syria attacked

I imagine that for Iran an "unimaginable loss" would be the disappearance of Tehran.

I hope the Israelis have not adopted the gradualism approach. It makes the price much higher if they are to win, and it makes it likely they will lose.

Yes, well stated. Ping this thread.

Fess up, what planet are you posting from?

My guess is you're talking out of planet Yur-anus. You obviously have no clue as to what the situation is here on planet earth.

"Wouldn't it something if President Bush warned Iran of "unimaginable destruction" if they don't stop the reckless behavior?"

Wouldn't it be something if Iran got warning of "unimaginable destruction" BY THE AIR RAID SIRENS, about 30 seconds before the destruction began?
