Strip club king goes to church looking for votes
The ST. Petersburg Times ^ | July 17, 2006 | KEVIN GRAHAM

TAMPA - It may have been the least likely place for a man who doesn't believe in God to receive a standing ovation, but it happened Sunday morning when Joe Redner went to church.

Bishop Randy White, senior pastor at Without Walls International Church, invited the strip club owner to join him in the pulpit and talk about his campaign for the Hillsborough County Commission District 5 seat.

"All right, he's not running for pastor. My job's not up," White jokingly told parishioners while introducing Redner, as their continued applause prompted Redner to stand and nod his head in thanks.

Yes it is - you just don't know it yet

Sounds like a lot of the church members are familiar with this guy's business.

Interesting that a strip club owner would be welcomed to church by a pastor named "Randy."

We need to protect our environment, because no one knows how long we're going to be here," Redner said. "I think that's preached in the Bible."

Bet he's a Democrat.

Unless this guy was giving his life to Christ, I'm not sure how this can be justified.

It is easier to justify the owner of a sex toy store. At least there, there's no lusting and items can be had for legitimate use with spouses.

"Joe Redner is not a practicing politician. I like that about him," White said. "He's a man of integrity. He's never lied to me."

How do you know, Bishop? Isn't that what Hillary said about Bill, too? Seriously, this pastor sounds like he's not all there.

Lying is not the only sin in the Bible.

You're right ... but it's funny how many people seem to take the position that being an open, unrepentant sinner is a manifestation of righteousness.

I think this sounds like a fringe church and the MSM has marching orders to make christian churchas look less christian.

Perhaps they have a Hedonism Christian retreat planed.

Nothing "fringe" about it - This is a major Tampa Mega-Church founded by TBN celebrity preacher Paula White and her Hip, With-it, hubby Randy

Good grief... There are so many sad and dumb statements in that article (from "Bishop" White and his church members) that I hardly know where to begin.

More proof that TBN and the celebrity "preachers" on it are an insult to Christianity. I cringe anytime I click past it on TV. The tacky golden furniture on their set should be everyone's first sign something is seriously wrong... :)

You know all those churches you see on the TBN type networks, where psyching up is the name of the game?

It's got a lot of people, and I am sure there are some true Christians in it, but when I saw Paula White shaking her leg out in front of the pulpit, pointing at it and screaming, "That's the Holy Spirit!" - words fail me.

Here is another story about Randy and his wife pitching health supplements. They are "prosperity preachers" who are not ashamed to live in a multi-million dollar mansion in the ritzy part of Tampa. He drives a Bentley and she drives a Mercedes. I believe they are considered to have the fastest growing congregation in the country.

I have a problem with belligerent self-righteous bible-beaters who ask questions like "You have a problem with that?"

I also remember something about "casting the first stone", but that was just Jesus, who probably isn't enough of an authority on Christianity for you.

Remembering a verse in the bible isn't very helpful.

We aren't condemning the man to death, or seeking to punish him.

But christians are to discern good from evil, to espouse the good and reject the evil, to flee temptation. We aren't saying the state should force TBN off the air, we are just saying their message is not christianity, their approach is evil, and calling them a "christian church" is an affront to real christians everywhere.

We "tolerate" them just fine, because we don't seek to destroy them. We don't "accept" them or their message, which is an entirely DIFFERENT thing than "tolerating", which as South Park so correctly described, means to "put up with something you find reprehensible".

Yep, "health and wealth" describes them very well. TBN appears to be a motley collection of false prophets and scam artists.

Sadly, there are lots of people in this country who's entire perception of Christians is based on what they've seen via Jim & Tammy Faye and TBN, etc. If they have no sincere Christians that they can talk to, I can understand how many think we're all nuts.

Bingo. Absolutely they're false prophets.

The Bible has a very high standard in this regard. If a person makes ONE incorrect prophecy, then that person is a false prophet.

I don't have time to research it now, but I've seen whole lists of predictions that these TBN "preachers" have made that haven't come to pass.

Do they hate Muslims as well or are you just taking a swipe at Christians ? I'm more of an Agnostic, but it gets a little ponderous that it's only Christians that get bashed .
There are definately some scammers out there in the Christian community, but I haven't seen any of these preachers advocating violence . Now Islam is a different story, so i'm curious of what the people in your office think of Muzzies ?
