I don't think Webb is nearly as strong as he's been made out to be. He "surged" to the high 30s in polls over the last month or so, and Allen has a huge advantage in campaign cash that hasn't even been tapped yet.

One of Allen's biggest assets in a presidential election is that he comes from a state that has been getting increasingly "blue" in recent decades as it has gotten more urbanized and has attracted more immigrants.

Then why did Dubya improve his margin from '00 to '04? Probably because that's a common misperception.
