PRIZREN, Kosovo -- Being a monk is never easy. But Brother Benedict, a friendly 29-year-old with the ever-present beard that characterizes Orthodox Christian clerics, cheerfully welcomed three foreign visitors to his humble abode.
Unfortunately, any Serb who travels outside of few remaining enclaves does so at his own risk. At the quasi-border dividing Serbia from Kosovo (which nominally remains part of Serbia), drivers routinely replace their Serbian license plates with ones marked Kosovo to disguise their identities. To do otherwise would risk not only their cars but their lives.
Even foreigners are at risk. Some British tourists recently were roughed up and their car was destroyed because the vehicle had been rented in Belgrade. Had they been Serbian their lives probably would have been forfeited. More than 900 Serbs have been murdered since the allies took control and ethnic killings continue in the territory. But you will look long and hard to find an ethnic Albanian jailed for committing the crimes.

Bump!
This is not suprising, one group once persecuted, now become the persecutors . Those who were part of the persecutor's group, now face reprisals !
Having removed Milosevic has not turned these people into one big happy melting pot .
These people hate each other, and have been killing each other for centuaries
DIVERSITY = DIVISIVENESS
Our own country's history is an example of such . .

The US will get nothing positive out of backing Kosovo Independence, and the remaining Serbs will get a death sentence. There is no sense in it!
There must be some sense in it. In recent meeting with Serbian PM Condy was very undiplomatic and almost yelled at Kostunica that Kosovo is alrady independent, only Serbia has to admit it.
Sort of saying to Israeli PM that Jerusalem is Palestinian, only Israel has to admit it.
However, there is no public explanation of SOS position. Probably because it would ring hollow.
Although it is customary that one administration is not willing to condemn the actions of previous one, one have ot ask himself why the folly is continued full speed.
Also, the Neo-con racist hatred of the Serbs as a people can not be explained rationally because Neo-cons keep mum about their designs for Kosovo.
There is something rotten out there, we can smell it, but can not see it. It seems we are looking in the wrong direction.
It's as though they are saying, "If the Serbs would just disappear, we could have peace in the Balkans!"
Sort of like saying "If Israel would just disappear, we could have peace in the ME!"
" The US will get nothing positive out of backing Kosovo Independence, and the remaining Serbs will get a death sentence. There is no sense in it! "
You're right about that. The Serbs first death sentence came in Bosnia, with the second one happening now in Kosovo. Thanks to ex pres B. Clinton and his dim wit secretary of state M. Albright, plus a useless NATO, there aren't many Serbs left in Kosovo to contest the Islamic take over. Reverse ethnic cleansing has occurred, this time with the blessings from the West, of which makes no sense at all. It appears, the war on terror is selectively being fought in different parts of the world under the guise of at war with terrorism. I guess the NATO supervised terrorizing of Serbs, and the torching of all Christian churches in Kosovo by Islamofacists does not count as terrorism! Clearly, an independent Kosovo state, really means an Islamofacist state in the Balkans! Think about this for a moment, that Iran voted in a small time thug as their president, with full worldly diplomatic immunity. The little evil bastard was even allowed to speak before the full UN. Conceivably then, Osama bin Laden could be voted prime minister of Kosovo, and as head of state, could have the same accepted world immunity. Far fetched thinking you say, well, so does the evil mind think too.
The absolute incompetency showed by the Clinton administration in this little episode clearly demonstrates that they had no concept whatsoever that what they really were accomplishing was to kick open the back door of Europe to an Islamofascist invasion. Albright ought to walk in the darkest corners of the US and keep her big, fat mouth shut on issues of foreign policy. She was a disaster as SOS.
ahhh, that explains while I was still in Serbia "proper" the muslims stopped my rental car (carryng BG-beograd plates) til I displayed my "Americanism" to them, then they were friendly. hmmmmm of course, this was back in 2003 between Novi Pazar and Kosovo.
Wasn't there a president who went into Bosnia to stop things like this against the wishes of Congress. Gee willergers', that was only supposed to last a couple of years.
Heard tell it was part of his legacy.
