I don't think changing the primary system is such a bad thing. As someone from a state with a late primary, it is frustrating that the choice of presidential candidates is usually pretty well set in stone by the time my turn to vote comes around. I don't quite see why someone in Iowa or New Hamphsire should have a primary vote that counts a lot more than those of people in other states. I wouldn't mind having all the primaries moved to be much closer together.

It is important to have the early primaries in small states with open minded swing voters. With big states, all you have to do is carpet bomb the airwaves with tv ads. In small states, they expect to see you in flesh and blood. NH has less than 800,000 registered voters.

And if you look at the 2000-2004 elections, NH and Iowa were both nearly 50-50 in each. What is the point of having a primary in Utah or District of Columbia. They are meaningless in the big picture.
