"Sounds like they want to do a "Tet" - which was, of course, a huge military defeat for the NVA, but the socialists in America made it into a political victory FOR THE ENEMY"

Well the socialists didn't have conservative talk radio to contend with, or FR or the conservative blogs or Fox News.
Its a whole new ball game altogether, and the power and influence of the drive-by medai keeps falling every year.
It's a great time to be a conservative in America, and it can only get better.

"Having just about all the insurgents streaming into Baghdad is kind of like luring all the rats out into the open at the city dump. Plink at them and pick them off as they scamper to their goal of safety, then keep them holed up until they are starved down and have to come back outside."

We used to do that at night with 12 gauges & 22 rifles. I had an old Plymouth with a spotlight on it. We'd sit on the hood then turn the light on them. There was no 'luring' about it; they were there. After a few minutes they'd be in hiding and the light would go off. After another interval we'd turn the light back on and there'd they be again. It was something to do if nothing else presented itself. The town 'constable' would come out and shoo us off, but he understood. You bring up an old memory.

And that is what worries me. It all seems very coordinated. Anyone seen fat boy Sadr lately?

Maybe I don't read too good, but it seems to me this is the military saying this, not the press.

What I meant, was that is we know they are streaming in, then we must have ID'd and located them...why don't we take them out as we ID them, instead of after they get the word from whomever?

Because they are not "streaming in" the same way the crowd goes through the turnstyles at Disneyworld when it opens for business.

We can't use the MOAB until they concentrate their forces...

This should be entertaining. You know, the most powerful military in the world is all over the place over there. In addition, a newly formed local force of 236,000 men is spread throughout the country. 6.4 million people with cell phone subscriptions (and eyes) make 4785 actionable tips to the military every month.

268 newspapers and magazines, 50 television stations, and numerous commercial radio stations let all the people know (in their own dialects) just who the scum bags really are. Read more at this link if you'd like to catch up on what Iraq is really like circa May 2006.

A roach motel within a roach motel.

I said this "war" was over at Fallujah, just like WW II in the Pacific was essentially over at Midway: this is about to be the "insurgents'" version of the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot.

"If they know insurgents are streaming in, can't they be stopped before the all-out attack?"

Put a wall around baghdad and let them fight it out. Whoever is the winner, we kill.

"Clearly the death squad elements, the terrorist elements, know that Baghdad is a must-win for them," he said. "Whoever wins the Baghdad area, whoever is able to bring peace and security to that area, is going to set the conditions to stabilize this country." Wapo's contribution to this story is evident by how they put these quotes together.

Every one of these vermin caught should be hauled into the street, doused with gasoline, and set on fire.

Even if they are not streaming in as the gen said, we must know about them, and where/who they are, otherwise, How would we know?

We know from intelligence reports, from increased attacks, and from increased captures or kills of the ones we happen to capture or kill. We do not know every individual who slips in the city or who already lives there and is planning to attack. If we did, we indeed would pick thenm up.

The terrorists will lose their Tet Offensive and sustain horrendous losses.

But the anti-war Left will tout it as a hugh win for the terrorists, and demand the Failed Bush War means we must redeploy out NOW!

Too bad for them Walter Cronkite no longer rules the airwaves.

"surround the city...blockade..then sort them out and shoot. "

Or, more precisely, create a roach motel scenario...
1. Setup roadblocks into and out of the city. every car and every person is questioned and searched
2. Divide the capital into sections
3. Massively increase troop levels (US and Iraqi) in the city
4. Do section-by-section 'clear and hold' of each neighborhood in the city
