Presidential press secretary Tony Snow today defended his boss' level of commitment to border security, saying President Bush is "cognizant" of the fact terrorists may be entering the U.S. illegally.
"The president has made his views on border security well-known," WND told the spokesman, "and my question: Would the president make border security a higher priority if he were convinced it was being used as an entry point by terrorists like those who are part of Hezbollah and al-Qaida?"
Responded Snow: "Think of it this way. The president committed as much money to the borders already as the House of Representatives was planning on doing in five years. So, he was serious before he's perfectly cognizant of the possibility there may be terrorists crossing over. We have intelligence assets deployed in the area, and so he's not going to be anymore concerned because he's already very concerned about it."
Yesterday, Snow indicated the president "is already putting National Guardsmen in positions where they can relieve the Border Patrol" part of a $1.9 billion supplemental appropriation.

Day late and a dollar short, W. They're already here, thanks to your open borders non-policy. Just a matter of time, now...

President Bush is "cognizant" of the fact terrorists may be entering the U.S. illegally.
He could try proving it.

I'm concerned that these people being "rescued" out of Lebanon are terrorists. Is anyone checking to see if they are American citizens?

Whew! Better close that barn door now.
Mr. President, with all due respect, Why the Hell didn't you worry about this on September 12th, 2001? Or a week after the attack? Or a month? We been screaming about this for well over 5 years!

Duh!
[GW has been lucky that another major terrorist attack with some illegal as instigators has not happened. If it does, his presidency is over -- because he has been so adamantly opposed to curbing anything related to border and illegals. He has been walking a dangerous tightrope with his lackadaisical treatment of illegals/border issues.]

From AZCentral.com via the Drudge Report, July 21, 2006 (today):
Sheriff, federal agency at odds on caught immigrants
Undocumented immigrants being set free
If the President is concerned about it, why has he not put a stop to federal agents' releasing illegal aliens--or even failing to apprehend, prosecute, and export them?
Does the President of the United States not have the authority to force federal agents to enforce U.S. law? To fire them if they don't?
Is President Bush ineffective? Incompetent? Reluctant himself to enforce U.S. law?
Well, Tony, what do you have to say?
Are you paying attention, White House Eavesdroppers?
The American people want to know.

Can you imagine the finger-pointing circus that will take place if a terrorist group should accomplish another 9-11.
To: conservativecorner
The president committed as much money to the borders already as the House of Representatives was planning on doing in five years.
Dipsy-doodle shell game rhetoric. Congress appropriated funds for 2,000 new border guards last year, and Bush approved hiring only 200.
At least reports, the number of NG on the border is far from the 6,000 number. Last count I saw was just over 800 are actually active on the border. The others have been in 'training' for 2 months --- for a 2-week border stint?

"Bush worried about border-hopping terrorists [5 Years Of Open Borders And Now He's Worried]" Yesterday the President was suddenly 'worried' about poor blacks who are "still victims of racism". Bush is just another politician who will "worry" about whatever he thinks will get him or his fellow RINOs some votes. But frankly, I believe the black group he spoke to yesterday trust that he's worried about them just as much as the whole nation trusts that he's worried about our WIDE OPEN borders.

Some reports said that Lebonese/muslims being 'rescued' by the US are getting free passage and up to 3 months free boarding. Actual real passport-carrying American citizens being evacuated are having to pay their own way.

"it's not like the borders weren't porous under previous administrations..." All the more reason they shouldn't be porous today in this post 9-11 world. Bush has been President how long now?
"If Jihadi Akhmed wants to rumble in my backyard...he's going to have a quick come to Jesus with the Second Amendment."
Marvelous anti-terrorist planning. Let them in to do their damage, and then we'll shoot them. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Nah...they don't.
Bush does, rightly, deserve criticism for this issue...but in totality I believe Bush to be a good POTUS, just tired of seeing him beat up on these threads.

What I don't understand is why you people seem so involved in this subject but don't seem to know what is actually going on. We found out that the INS was an out-of-date sham after 9-11. Remember they issed a visa for Mohammed Atta to attend flight school weeks afterwards? So Congress passed Homeland Security and they have been working to strengthen and update this area which has many different facets.
For instance, entry to the country is much tighter in response to question if anyone will check the people from Lebanon. Yes, and they will photograph and fingerprint them, too, before they are even allowed to board a plane to the US.
If you Johnny one notes won't pay attention, and always want to beat the same drum irregardless of what anyone does to address your concern, then there is really no point in ever doing anything. That is what you are teaching the politicians.
You have seized on what the administration considered the lowest priority (non-criminal, non-terrorist illegal workers) and even as they work on that you carry a blunt big club of stubborn cynicism. Frankly, you make these threads miserable for the rest of us.
To: Charles Martel
Yeah...I thought so. Thanks.

Some believe it has nothing to do with stupidity, at the decision-making level.
Also there are many on this forum who believe all of Bush's "seeming Mistakes" are part of his brilliant strategery and there will September/October surpises that will anihilate the evil enemy and Geroge W. (and the GOP) will emerge victorious and surprise all of us who are somewhat doubtful of his conservativism.
Of course that will still leave us with millions of illegals that we must handle compassionately instead of giving them them the old heave-ho.
