7/22 Middle East Live Thread

Counter Insurgency is not Total War. Trying to impose a Conventional Warfare solution on an Asymmetrical warfare problem gets you the US in Vietnam or the Russians in Afghanistan. It doesn't work. EVERY successful counter insurgency involves getting the natives to fight each other.

Curious how the usual suspects never ever bother to think for even a heart beat about the fact that the bulk of the forces doing the fighting and dying on OUR side in the War on Terror are Muslim Iraqis, Afghanis and Pakistanis. You all seem desperate to drive them into the arms of our enemies. That would be incredibly foolish on our part.

We have neither the blood, treasure or political will to fight a war of Conquest against all of Islam. This "all Islam is our enemy" ranting is utterly without the slightest hint of intellectual merit.

Yup!

Let's hope we (the US, Israel, other Western countries - with the exception of France, Belgium and some others) have lots of information assets in Iran.

Unfortunately I don't think that's the case.

Confirmed. Nobody here can reach anyone in Lebanon now. We've lost all contact and we've been staying in tuch regularly throughout the days here.

It's fairly clear by now that Hezbollah has such a stranglehold on the Lebanese government that all resources may become legitimate targets.
