I doubt 45 freepers will bother to read this thread.

My offense was not directed towards you, Mount Athos, but towards Geldoff.

Maybe if he raised funds to kill African dictators, there may be better long term results.

first major charity involvement occurred in September 1981, when he performed as a solo artist for Amnesty International's benefit show

many aid agencies pronounced they were disappointed with the outcome, which led some cynics to claim that Live 8 had been more about rehabilitating the careers of aging rock stars, including Geldof himself, than it was about the poor people of Africa

'People are dying NOW. Give us the money NOW. Give me the money now'; shortly afterwards, he said '**** the address, just give the phone, here's the number...', when trying to emphasise the point of Live Aid as a fundraising event

In mid July 2006, he infuriated many New Zealanders by critisizing New Zealand's contribution to various charities as 'pathetic'.

In February 2006, he was among the 191 nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize.

During a visit to Ethiopia, Geldof also praised President George W. Bush's proposal to fight AIDS in Africa[9]. This proposal has been criticised from aid groups, due to its heavy emphasis on Christian morality and sexual abstinence [10]. Many on the political left have charged Geldof with hypocrisy, due to his conspicuous lack of support for causes such as the UK miners' strike (1984-1985) and the anti-war movement. Some critics have also claimed that Geldof is becoming the acceptable face of euroscepticism[11]. Geldof is also an active fathers' rights spokesperson in the United Kingdom.

Hey, Geldork - your 15 minutes of fame was up long ago - now no one cares about your sorry carcass. Life is tough, deal with it......

Why did he wait until the concert to cancel the show? He should have known it wasn't selling well and he could have saved himself the trouble of showing up as well as for his 45 fans if he had canceled earlier.

From what I read or heard, Bob IS, or at least associates with conservatives. He certainly challenged the last Canadian Liberal Prime Minister, Paul Martin, about taking Live 8 seriously, to the point of saying, "Don't bother showing up if you're not serious (to paraphrase)." Bono kissed up to Martin whereas Bob didn't. I really don't know his politics, but it may well be that because he is now more of a conservative than before, and the youth and previous audience have fled.

Dixie Chicks' tickets sales weren't much better in the Red States. That's why they cancelled half their U.S. dates.

Geldof walked out of Milan's 12,000-capacity Arena Civica on Friday without playing, given the paltry attendance. His manager explained that a concert for less than 400 people would not be viable, the newspaper said.

Ummm considering that he was there already and all set up would it have cost him any more to play rather then to walk out?

Maybe he needed to wash his hair.

Once again we have a perfect illustration of someone who never understood the basic foundation of show business. Do not flip off your fans.

It is the first, last and only rule.

The 54-year-old Irish rocker, who said he had flown in from South Africa for the gig, sought to placate angry fans afterwards by promising to give a free concert in September.

All 45 of them?

ROFLOL!
