As I recall, when the Police were starting out, only 3 people showed up at a bar gig in upstate New York. They played, of course, and everyone had a great time.....and they got good publicity.

My husband says it's very difficult to perform for a near empty house.

Yeah, their first tour, in 1978. I used to collect vinyl bootlegs of the Police from that tour. They were a cool live band back then.

When Dolly Parton was just beginning her solo career she did a concert in Waco, at the Heart of Texas Colosseum. Only about fifteen people showed up. She turned her band loose, and did an hour and a half concert for us, accompanying herself on guitar. Then she signed autographs and visited with all of us for about a half hour. Quite a contrast with the subject of this article, and your recollections of the Police.
