I was in Vietnam in 66, 69 and 72 (USMC). I am in Afghanistan now - supporting Special Forces with a UAV detachment. There is a big difference between the two wars: the NVA's external support (from the Soviet Union and China) was much more extensive than the support for the Taliban. That should have a significant impact. Also, supporting arms are more effective here than in Vietnam. BUT, the similarity is that unless our resolve stays strong and enduring we may have another unfortunate outcome.

the article was about O-U-T-P-O-S-T-S, and so was my observation.......and comparison. If the Afghan Army and cops can't (or won't) man copshops in the boonies yet, they're probably never going to, and for the same reasons most of the ARVN was pathetic.......a little laziness and a lot of conflicting loyalties.
But tks for the 'lesson' anyway.
