MIAMI - Hurricane forecasters now say conditions are right for a low-pressure area off Mexico in the Gulf of Mexico to intensify, become better organized and possibly form into a tropical depression. That word from the National Hurricane Center in Miami at 11:30 a.m.
Earlier today, the hurricane center just made a passing mention of the shower activity in the western gulf.
As of late morning, the Miami forecasters say monitoring equipment on buoys in the gulf have picked up wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.
"A tropical depression could develop during the next day or so if the low pressure area remains offshore," said a hurricane center advisory.
Forecasters put the center of the storm off La Pesca, Mexico.
Other than this low, there is no other tropical storm development anywhere in the gulf, the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, the hurricane center reported.
[media desperately hoping for a big hurricane]
I was jsut commenting to my wife yesterday that we have not seen many hurricanes so far this year.
- has the hurricane season not lived up to the hype so far?
Braden-tucky BTTT
Don't really want a hurricane but we could sure use some good rains in Texas.
Karl Rove's at it again!
Hurricane machine's broke. [sic]
Now where did this come from?
You're absolutely correct. With so many news channels running 24 hours a day, the American attention span has gotten even shorter and the media is constantly pushing for the next big thing. Think to yourself, how long has it been since you've heard an alarming report on the bird flu? That was replaced by the North Korean missile launches and now the Israelis and arabs. Next: a killer huurricane.
The 2004 season started slowly.
The first storm of the 1992 season wasn't until mid-August. The "A" storm that year was Andrew.
Never underestimate a hurricane season until it's over.
We could use some in Alabama as well. Sadly, the corn crop is too far gone to recoup even if this depression came our way. However, peanuts and cotton are hanging in there. Let it rain!
Or gas prices. Or perhaps something totally original will come along for them to panic about
Sadly, the corn crop is too far gone to recoup even if this depression came our way
The corn in the MS Delta died
but the good news is...
it didn't suffer long.
So YOU are the culprit! You just had to say it out loud, didn't you?
:o)
But, I knocked on wood!!!
