ESPN fires Harold Reynolds for "sexual harrassment"

July 26, 2006 -- After being accused of sexual harassment and fired by ESPN, former "Baseball Tonight" analyst Harold Reynolds said yesterday he doesn't think he did anything wrong and is still hoping to regain his job.

"This was a total misunderstanding," Reynolds told The Post. "My goal is to sit down and get back. To be honest with you, I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted."

Reynolds declined to give any more details. The woman who accused Reynolds of the sexual harassment is an ESPN co-worker, according to sources.

Yesterday, ESPN confirmed The Post's report that Reynolds had been fired, but they would not comment any further.

"He no longer works here," ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said.

Still, Reynolds is hopeful ESPN executives will change their minds. Besides being with the network for 11 years, Reynolds had just signed a new six-year contract to remain in Bristol and he recently got married.

Confirmation of yesterday's speculation.

Given ESPN's track record, I'm guessing this isn't his first offense ...

gave a woman a hug

Was it someone at ESPN that he hugged? I can't think of any reason to hug a coworker. Married? Engaged? Death in the family? Birthday? I'll sign a card.

I saw the headline of Fired over a picture in the paper this morning. I was really hoping it was Joe Morgan. I liked Harold.

Sexual harrassment - that's all? At least he didn't criticize McNabb...

I heard he is being replaced by Bill Clinton in order to repair their image with women.

I like Reynolds too and will miss him on Baseball Tonight. I hope the accusations are false but who knows?

As for ESPN, I find myself more and more alienated from them. They are borderline left-wing activist, and they jock-sniff beyond belief.

I think there is a real market opportunity for a new sports network to do what ESPN used to do - give us sports and nothing but sports, and offer honest analysis and critique without all the fluff and self-important air.

Sort of like how Fox News appeared and blew CNN out of the water...

Or go into the hereditary reasons why black athletes are stronger than white athletes.

I spoke about this with a friend from ESPN....

Reynolds was harrassing a girl at ESPN consistently- she filed two complaints but Reynolds would not quit...evidently he hit on her again yesterday and was promptly fired then escorted to his car...the word was while he was great on TV he was a SOB to work with....

I heard it wasn't major- he didn't say "hey- let's go in the back of my car and play hide the salami"....

he kept asking her out and hanging around her- which classify's as sexual harassment after the first time she say's "leave me alone"....

ESPN walks on egg shells when it comes to sexual harrassment based on prior incidents..

Jeff Brantley, another ESPN baselball analyst was also fired- he evidently showed up drunk to the studios 20-minutes after Reynolds was fired...

Wow! I wonder if it has something to do with this?

Broadcaster's multimillion-dollar former home burns

How bizarre.

::fingers in ears:: Please don't tell me Reynolds was a jerk off the air. He was one of the reasons I would watch the games.

I only watch espn when they have a football game on, then turn the sound off.

Try to find out a score without learning what color undies a jock wears, is impossible.

That's really strange. He watches his FORMER home burn, then goes on a bender and shows up for work stinking drunk, leading to his firing. Do I have that right?

With all the groping, drinking and drugs going on in Bristol, Rush gets the heaviest axe for a comment?

And Michael Irvin was arrested again 3 weeks ago. Caught speeding after violating probation for another speeding incident:

"I was really hoping it was Joe Morgan."

I was hoping it would be Steve Phillips. He is by far the worst.

When it comes to sexual harrassment, if you get a pass on the first offense and it is documented with HR, consider yourself very lucky. If you do it a second time, the company has no choice but to fire you. The company does not want to be party to a lawsuit for sexual harrassment.

He may have been having finance problems. Most of the time, these days, an "investment firm" buying it means, "1-800-we-pay-cash". They prey on peole, buying at a substantial discount off the homes value. But, it IS quick cash!

If he was on a spiral, the home going, and then burning, too, was probaly a good reaon to escape for a little while (to him)! Imagine how he feels after being fired!
