Smoking as a cause of fires is often a fallback position supported in many cases only by the charred but not consumed filter tips found at the scene.
It still doen't rule out intentional setting of the fire by a smoker who has a lot of patience.
Sorry, you've got it wrong. The term "smoker" refers to a person. The proper analogy would be "Shooter blamed for pedestrian death." If they had said "Smoking" blamed for fire you'd be right.
If someone started the fire, intentionally or negligently, by smoking or any other way, they should be held responsible. That a fire was started is no reason to ban smoking. I am a non-smoker.
You're such an old-school liberal. Everyone knows that every modern crime has been committed with an assault weapon. I know for a fact that assault weapons were involved in the Enron fraud. Assault weapons and Rush Limbaugh (and Dick Cheney and Halliburton).
