Brooke Astor, the patron saint of philanthropy and society in New York, is being forced to live her remaining days in wretched, uncharitable conditions, according to court papers filed by her grandson.
Astor, now 104, is allegedly being kept inside her dilapidated Park Ave. duplex by her only child, Anthony Marshall - who controls her $45 million fortune, yet refuses to spend money for her care.
The stunning blue blood family feud emerged from court documents obtained exclusively by the Daily News.
According to court papers, Marshall:
Cut back on everything from her doctor visits to the brand of makeup she uses.
Won't give Astor a hospital bed fitted with rails, even though she has fallen from her bed.
Ordered her aides to not buy certain medicine at the drugstore because a weaker version is available for less on the Internet.
Wouldn't allow nurses to buy his mother a new outfit for her 104th birthday.

If this IS true, it really is sad.
My (fairly limited) knowledge of probate law typically found in force in just about every state of the Union suggests to me that the grandson's motives in this case may not be as altruistic as they might appear to be at first glance.
They are swearing to everything in court papers. New Yorkers should run the son and his wife out of town on a rail for treating one of the city's great philanthropists so shabbily.
By all accounts, the son should be horsewhipped.
Maybe, but the article doesn't indicate that he is trying to gain guardianship or control of her money. He wants one of her friends and Chase Morgan Bank to take over her guardianship.
That friend being Annette de la Renta, wife of clothing designer Oscar de la Renta.
Yes,I saw that. But depending on several factors,if the son is found guilty of willful neglect or abuse,he could be deemed by a probate judge to have forfeited any right he might otherwise have had to inherit from his mother's estate.
If,by chance,I'm correct and that *does* happen, then the grandson could wind up being the sole heir because I think the piece mentions that the son (who's being accused) is the woman's only child and these things go down to children and grandchildren before they branch out to siblings, parents, etc.
I certainly don't know what's in the heart of anyone involved but $$$,particularly when it's part of a will or divorce fight, can bring out the very worst in an individual.
Appears sonny & wifey may have already gone thru Astor's fortune. The rich are no better than trailer trash when it comes to relatives.
"By all accounts, the son should be horsewhipped."
These are the people you want to pass on the street and without any provocation, punch them in the face as hard as you can.
I hate these people. The other one I would love to cream is Schumer.
I hope I'm there when you do it. I might just kick em while they're down.
