OAXACA CITY, MEXICO - In April a sit-in among steelworkers in the west turned deadly. The next month came violent demonstrations outside Mexico City.

Now, thousands of dissidents in the southern state of Oaxaca have taken over this pretty colonial capital, shattering windows of hotels, spraying buildings with revolutionary graffiti, and causing the city to cancel its most famed festival of the year.

More than a month of protests and blockades by striking teachers trying to oust the state governor have forced authorities to cancel the city's famed cultural events, including a traditional dance festival and as most tourists are staying away, the protests are costing the city millions in tourism revenues.(AP Photo/Alexandre Meneghini)

Well...it begins..So does W's stance on immigration solely reflect his concern for the unrest south of the border..that our porous borders function as a safety valve for this problem?

We are against repression, and we could provide unity for all the country," he says, "where the pueblo is fighting against the rich."

The teachers strike in Oxaca has done little but hurt the small local businesses in the town according to Mark in Mexico. The protesters destroyed a local school bus, which now has to be replaced.

Hardly an effective strike against political corruption and the bloated rich.....

The corrupt, racist Mexican elites fear the possibility of a full Mussolini. Fox and friends probably have moved their funds and have their "bolt plans" updated. While still a long shot, the "pucker" factor affects the guilty most.

SAJ, thank you very much for pinging me here. The article is indeed lame, but the bias of MSM reporting it represents may be far more important than you realize. I started writing a response to you and then found that I was starting my sixth paragraph, so I've copied it into a Notepad text file and I'm going to post my own commentary on this article in the "Bloggers and Personal" section very shortly, since what I consider the "misreporting" in the author's article that is linked from this thread is a matter that should be discussed at greater length.

I should get it up at around 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. Central time, and I will ping you from there. Thanks again.
