A Few Questions

Why does the president call the secretary of state "Condi"? And what exactly is his philosophy?

Thursday, July 27, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT

Why does President Bush refer in public to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as "Condi"? Did Dwight Eisenhower call his Secretary of State "Johnny"? Did Jimmy Carter call his "Eddie," or Bill Clinton call his "Maddy," or Richard Nixon call his "Willie" or "Hank"? What are the implications of such informality?

I know it is small, but in a way such things are never small. To me it seems a part of the rhetorical childishness of the age, the faux egalitarianism of the era. It reminds me of how people in the administration and Congress--every politician, in fact--always refer to mothers as moms: We must help working moms." You're not allowed to say "mother" or "father" in politics anymore, it's all mom and dad and the kids. This is the buzzy soft-speak of a peaceless era; it is an attempt to try to establish in sound what you can't establish in fact.

You convinced me long ago that you hated Ronald Reagan. All liberals do.

Let me present you with the defense of Ronald Reagan. You are obviously not up to defending him.

Reagan went into to Lebanon with the hopes that a stable government could be set up. But the fighting with Syria, Lebanon and Israel convinced Reagan that it was not a good thing to do.

In Korea and Viet Nam the Soviets had managed to bog us down in a war with their puppets. The soviets supplied and we died. It was time for direct confrontation coupled with secondary confrontation with our third party nation fighting the Russians. Reagan decided to turn the tables on the Soviet Union.

Reagan decided to take Soviets down a notch or two by having them fight our surrogates. And that is what he did in Afghanistan. He used quite unsavory Afghanistan Militant Muslim nationals to fight the Russian military with guerrilla tactics. It went a long way towards making Afghanistan the Soviet Union's Viet Nam.

It also saved a ton of money that could be spent on high tech weapons that the soviets could not match.

I post this in an attempt to prove to you that you are incapable of even coming close to defending Ronald Reagan.

Your defense is angry name calling. It only reveals your lack of intelligence.

I knew Ronald Reagan, Betty and Jerry Ford introduced me to him. I knew Nixon too. President Ford was kind enough to introduce me to him, too.

You wouldn't know a conservative if he hit you on your nose. You are at best a confused individual who wouldn't know what Reagan was up to if he had written you a letter explaining it.

If you give a damn about the memory of Ronald Reagan you'll start using a more suitable name... Reagan's Embarrassment is a lot more apropos.

Right. You can't back up your outrageous claim, because its not true. Once again, you got caught in a lie. The historic facts aren't on your side. Boy, your losing all around tonight.

Next!

You have yet to state one historical fact. The ONLY thing you've done on this thread, is to name call, post drivel, act like a two year old, and defame the name of Reagan.

Bear in mind, CT, that those particular weapons probably had a short shelf life. The Persians probably got the U.S. stuff on the black market, where it is easily available.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I've been defending Reagan on most of this entire thread. But thanks for your post, CT. I'll keep the handle "Reagan Man".
