Yes, you're completely correct. The term "pwned" was a misspelling in a foreign video game. It is a similar inaccuracy as "All your base are belong to us" which was also from a Japanese game manufacturer.

The word "L33T" is the absurd shorthand technique that children use to send text messages on cellular telephones. It somehow came from the word "elite" because the kids felt it was a superior form of written communication. The funny part is that this so-called code takes longer to interpret and type than it would to use the correct word!

The term "L33T" or more accurately "L337" came from the absurd shorthand technique that children (like me) used to send text messages with ASCI characters long before people had cell phones.
