Now I get it. Had to research the term Tatars. It was what the Europeans first called the Mongolians. They were a tribe from NE Mongolia. Tatar sounds a lot better then Mongol anyway. I sure would not want some one calling me a 1/2 Dal Riata/Pict mix. Just calling me a 1/2 blue face painted Scot works better and sounds better. Gee and my other half is Polish/Austrian. Hopefully will be able to figure out what 'tribes' they were. 'A man has got to know his limitations'.

So the Huns were not considered Tatars ?

I think the name tatars was given to these Mongol invaders by the Russians. While I was in Russia the first time, in 1993, I had something called beefsteak tatar or tatar beefsteak, whatever it was one of the worst tasting dishes I've ever had. It was pieces of "meat" in a transparent gooey jello, and the meat tasted like the worst liver you've ever smelled and eaten. UGGHHHHH!
