The Democratic candidate for state representative in the district representing Keizer is trying a novel approach to campaigning: praising the Republicans who have represented the area.
Charles Lee, a Keizer city councilor running against incumbent Republican Kim Thatcher in House District 25, will hold an Aug. 24 event at the Wittenberg Inn to "recognize the public-service careers" of former Rep. Vic Backlund, the Republican whom Thatcher defeated in the 2004 GOP primary, and state Sen. Charles Starr, the Hillsboro Republican defeated in the May 2006 primary by Republican Larry George. Starr's Senate district includes Keizer.

Backlund's support of Lee is obviously sour grapes since Lee is running for Backlund's old seat, that he lost to Kim Thatcher.
What is curious about Starr's support for Lee is that Starr was funded and propped up by the Oregon GOP against Larry George in the primary, but he's totally giving the finger to the machine that made his race with Larry as close as it was.
The Oregon GOP is wishy-washy enough at times, so often shooting themselves in the foot while cleaning the "gun of bi-partisanship" when they could be playing it conservative and actually winning on a long list of issues. That is why this cross-party support is so curious and so infuriating.

worthless RINOS! Thank goodness Larry George beat Starr
Over on nwrepublican blog, they posted a letter from Starr that now says he was fooled into participating in the event and that he's not going to attend. The democrats say that they were totallyi upfront with STarr and that he's just trying to weasel out of his earlier committment.
Frankly, I think Starr is lying through his artificial knee on this one.
No news on whether Backlund is going to be attending. Hopefully he'll get the hint.
someone how I dont believe Starr, the guy was a flamin RINO, voted for so many tax increases
