Just in case any lib slobberers try to connect Mel Gibson's apparent anti-semitism to his supposedly being conservative, remember this. Of course I guess he doesn't like the war on terror because he doesn't like us taking out jihadists who want to exterminate Jews.

Hollywood will forgive Mel.

Right on, MikeA.

Of course, we must also take care to separate the man from his achievements. Though I find his recent comments about Jews deeply offensive, I do still think Braveheart kicks a$$.

Mel has made an ass of himself with his drunkeness. He has stumbled greatly. He needs help. Pray for him.

Mel is a volcano of emotions...that's why he's such a good actor.

Ever see "Conspiracy Theory"? Funny film, and probably somewhat representative of Mel's true self.

I admire and thank Mel for bringing "Passion" to the screen. (But when he's drunk I wouldn't pay much to what he says just like I wouldn't any other drunk in the world.)

There are not a few rad-trads (radical traditionalists) on the extreme Catholic Right who are tinged, if not suffused, with Antisemitism and who also opppose Bush and the response to Islam's war on the West.

Mel had his own Chapel built in California, and he has his own vagus priest and he is not in Communion with the Catholic Church or his own Bishop and Pope. He is not amused by Vatican Two :)

He has made a lot of good movies and he has many admirable qualities but his ideas about Jews and Bush can not be wished away or sloughed-off with vague "I apologize to anyone who was offended" blanket apologies.

Sigh. I am sad and embarrassed once again to admit I admired someone who didn’t deserve it. Add Mel Gibson to Senator McCain on the list of those I use to admire. How can a man who had the moral Christian courage to create “The Passion” be so anti-semitic and such a liberal dunce?

Any anti-Bush remarks must have been made when he was drunk.

That means he didn't mean it. (sarc)

I'd like to hear Mel's side of these stories, not just the press characterization of him.

One could, of course, deal with the actual statements attributed to Mel Gibson. I would take it as a stupid diatribe. There is no merit to the statements as to the Jewish people who cause wars.

Sir Edward Creasy's masterpiece is the Fifteen Decisive Battles.(published 1851). It covers the period from the Marathon to Waterloo. The forces of Islam are documented. Nearly had Western Civilization kneeling on prayer mats. (Battle of Tours 732).Simply hard to find where the Jews fit in.

The most terrible, though arguable, war of all, was World War One. Millions died. Britain and Germany had built enormous battleships. Like overgrown children with toys , each side was itching for a stand off. They wanted to test the toys.

Along comes the Serbian nationalists in 1914. They murder the Arch Duke and Duchess of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It touches off the World War.

Funny Mel old chap, I just cannot find a Jew to blame it on. (my humour rather odd, but you know what I mean.

Mel should have been committed to a mental hospital a long, long time ago. And his wacko father too.

The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said and I apologize to anyone who I have offended.

"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.

"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

I must say that I am shocked behond words. Never would have expected this from Mel Gibson, both the anti-semetism and the Bush bashing. I will never trust anyone from Hollywood again, it seems they will turn against you on a dime.

Mel Gibson lives on the edge. Sometimes Mel goes over the edge. This time Mel went way over the edge and came down hard. That being said, Mel is neither a liberal nor a conservative. If you like Mel's movies, watch'em. People need to get a life and stop being so engrossed and absorbed in American pop culture. Its juvenile and phoney.
