Charlie Crist Let My Daughter Die

by Robert Schindler, Sr. Posted Jul 31, 2006

As most Americans know, on March 31, 2005, my daughter, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of starvation and thirst after having her feeding tube removed by court order. The sad chain of events that concluded with Terri’s death ignited a media firestorm nationally and internationally. What few saw or heard was the callous inaction of aspiring governor Charlie Crist.

Florida Atty. Gen. Charlie Crist let my daughter die. He had it within his authority to save her life, but he turned a blind eye to her suffering. Even worse, he worked to ensure her death.

Terri lived in a neurologically compromised state for reasons that are still unknown, and my family wanted nothing more than permission to care for Terri for the span of her natural life. We were denied.

My daughter tenaciously fought for her life for more than 13 days after being deprived of the most basic, natural and constant need that we all share—the need for nourishment—food and water. Terri was not on a respirator, nor terminally ill. She was not dying, nor succumbing to a dreadful disease. She was disabled. She was dependent on others, but still very much a life, a woman, and a person.

Over the course of several years, our family, our lawyers, and our friends pleaded for help from local, county, and state police and regulatory agencies with constitutional and statutory authority to investigate the many sworn statements of extreme abuse and neglect suffered by our daughter.

Hoping to save my daughter’s life, our family sought the help of Attorney General Charlie Crist. Not only did Charlie Crist refuse our family lawful access to the assets of his office, but he violated his oath of office by actively cooperated with those in positions of political and judicial authority whom denied us legal access to the police and regulatory systems meant to protect the weak. Multiple sworn agents from responsible police and regulatory agencies who found probable cause to investigate allegations of abuse in Terri's judicial and physical care, were ordered to shut down those probes. This heavy-handedness made us powerless.

Information of direct interest to Attorney General Charlie Crist's office was directly delivered to his personal hands, and he refused to properly execute the duties of his office. And it was with deliberate decision that he failed to attend a scheduled Tallahassee meeting with our family. On another occasion, we approached each other by chance. Upon recognizing me, Charlie Crist abruptly stopped and walked away.

That callous action encapsulates Charlie Crist. He walked away from a man whose daughter’s fate he controlled. At that moment, he turned his back on Terri. And he turned his back on the most fundamental duties of his office.

It is quite clear that Charlie Crist, to this day, has demonstrated no public affection for the cause of life, or Christianity, or any set of core values. He has been posturing to become governor for decades. With each voting audience he has crafted a message based on the expediency of the moment.

To add insult to injury, at a recent banquet, our alleged pro-life candidate for the Governor of Florida said the following about Judge George Greer and other judges involved in the death of my daughter, "You are heroes to all of us, and your defense of the judiciary and what is right is beyond admirable."

Through his actions, Charlie Crist has demonstrated that he has no regard for our most vulnerable citizens, the high duties of public office, or life itself. Charlie Crist’s celebration of the merciless judges who condemned Terri to death speaks to his true character.

Terri continues as a factor in politics in Florida and elsewhere...

As he travels the state in the month leading up to the Sept. 5 primary, Davis highlights a clutch of hotter issues from his nearly 10 years in the House, often his leadership in the congressional battles over Terri Schiavo and offshore drilling.

His rival in the Democratic primary, state Sen. Rod Smith, paints Davis more as a patron of lost causes. Over Davis' objections, the House voted to send Schiavo's case to federal court and passed an offshore drilling bill in June that awaits final negotiations with the Senate.

Davis has diverse record from time at the Capitol

TALLAHASSEE -- In six short years in the Florida Legislature, Rod Smith developed into a go-to guy on critical legislation affecting everything from schools to the court system to the controversy over Terri Schiavo.

His rapid rise in the state Senate was not surprising given that Smith is bright -- he served as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Law. As a glib-tongued trial lawyer, he starred in floor debates. And he arrived with the reputation of being one of the state's top prosecutors, having sent Gainesville serial killer Danny Rolling to Death Row.

Smith says working with GOP is key to success

Davis and Smith both want to increase teachers' salaries in the state, de-emphasize the FCAT and keep class sizes small.

Both also favor creating a paper trail for voters so they know their votes have been counted. They vow to increase stem cell research and talk about their efforts in fighting the Republicans who injected themselves into the Terri Schiavo controversy.

Many Dems still undecided on nominee for governor

The state may seem to run on time so to speak, but Tallahassee is a mess. I believe Jeb knows it and he's getting while the getting's good.

*************

I understood that he has no choice due to term limits.

CA: My Final Roller Coaster Ride - Ray Haynes

"In addition, the (California) Legislature will have at least one bill, perhaps more, that addresses how we will deal with the health care costs of old people and the disabled. It is a unique solution for the United States. The last country to use this method was Nazi Germany. The current proposal in the Legislature is called the “Compassionate Care Act” and purports to help make it easier for the old and disabled to make “end of life” decisions. Where I come from, we say we are going to kill them off, but I guess I just understand the nuances of the English language.

Then there’s single payer universal health care. That’s “pretty speak” for socialized medicine. Maybe we won’t need a bill to help old people and the disabled kill themselves, we’ll just enact universal health care and kill them off by not providing them with any health care. "

These were clinical tests, which are substantially more reliable than an autopsy finding. If Dr. Thogmartin is correct that Terri was cortically blind, almost certainly the loss of her remaining vision was caused by the dehydration.

Yes even 'brain weight' Nelson said the only possible way to know if a patient is PVS is clinical, not autopsy. Thogmartin, on the other hand, seems oblivious to the effects of dehydration on the cortical cortex. It is the first to go when hydration or blood supply is generally lacking. This needs to be revisited by another examiner more competent in area of dehydration.

Remember, MANNER OF DEATH: UNKNOWN

Somebody in the FEC is sick of this b.s. I think Florida's getting weary of interstate and out of state calls and emails about this GOP Judge Greer. He made the Republican Party look like a party of death. It's no longer just a democratic nuance because he killed Terri with gusto!

He said NO WAY about running for Senate too. I believe Jeb wants to do business with Latin America instead of being in politics at the moment.

There were so many coverups during his last term which I will remember more than the good that Jeb did.

I'm not just referring to Terri either.

If the FEC hearing is another hoax perpetrated upon the people of Florida, there will be a press release from the FEC because the cowards won't want to lie on camera that Greer's tv commercial was acceptable because it was illegal per the judicial canons and other Florida Statutes regarding co-mingling of agencies and agency property. If it's one thing Greer is good at it is co-mingling.

Terri is mentioned every day somewhere. Maybe her legacy is to sort out the good folks from the bad. Rod Smith wants to reach out to GOP. Would that be the democrat part of the GOP or the republican part?

This country has reached a point where the elderly and the disabled are human shields for George Soros and his Death Project.

Death by committee has arrived.

Terri was bleeding from her eyes and nose. Certainly losing circulation in the eyes would affect someone's vision. And dehydration causes the eyes to sink back into the skull.

I still can't believe Florida did this to a human being. Florida is to blame.

At the press conference, the ME said death due to dehydration. Did his written report state "unknown"? The M.E. flip flopped.
