Don't rule out the possibility (and I'm just throwing stuff at walls now, not declaring anything) that Landis was taking a masking agent that for whatever reason didn't work that day. Or he was just dumb, or the lab screwed up. It's all up in the air.

It's possible. They sell kits to pass employment drug tests; I don't know if they work and it would suck to have one fail if you were a druggie trying to get by.
Personally, I think the tests suck unless you're a pilot or something but it seems to me you don't get to be an airline pilot using drugs but what do I know?
