My guess is that they're just trying to show how common it is. And it is.

So is domestic violence. I don't see too many guys out there wearing "Proud Wifebeater" tee-shirts.

I'm just making a guess at the motivation. A lot of guys do make the fashion mistake of wearing wifebeater t-shirts, whether they're proud or not I don't know.
