In a related vein, I am filled with more (if possible) hatred and bad wishes for the Chinese government -- they are clubbing dogs to death because of a rabies scare. Meanwhile, they do not regularly vaccinate. Easy problem to fix. Honestly, I wish all the government officials there die a slow tortuous death.
They have been pulling dogs away from their owners and beating them to death right on the spot. And the government-sponosored killers also make noise in the streets so the dogs inside their homes bark and then the killers rush into the houses and club the dogs there.
These killers and their sponsors are barbaric and I hope they all absolutely die in the most cruel of ways. I am filled with the most extreme loathing and hatred when I think about it, so I am striving to refrain from thinking about it as that is the only way I can handle what these cretins are doing (and what others do to the baby seals as well.) These killers are all despicable.
It is the day they say Mohammad acended into heaven from Jerusalem. It may somehow be linked to the return of the Mahadi, I'm not sure. It is also the day of a full moon, and we know how these lunatics love the moon cycle. Two worse case scenarios come to mind: 1) They detonate a test nuclear weapon or the real thing somewhere. or 2) They launch global terror strikes. As much as the wacko in Iran has been pimping it, if nothing happens, people will stop listening to him. If he does something stupid and targets Israel, Tehran will become glass. Lesser actions are possible, but this guy is hot on the nuclear issue and my best guess it that it is linked to that.

First wire reports of Hezbollah response to resolution (CNN):

I have been thinking that they might try to test a nuclear device on the 22nd, and that would be their response. This would probably be a strong sign to the Shiite community that Ahmadinejad is a very important person to Islam, in the grand-scheme of things.
Mixed thoughts. Iran has made numerous threats suggesting an attack of some kind would be launched. Unless he has his hands on a real, functional warhead (something beyond their current technology IMHO), they've been all talk.
OTOH, a test would prove they have attained the level of technology to create a basic weapon and would have about the same effect as Pakistan obtained thru their tests a few years back. It takes time to create the warhead version of the system, but something that can be loaded into a bulk carrier (airplane, truck, container, etc) for terror purposes following the test has high potential IMHO.
IF Iran tests a weapon, then our intel has failed us miserably since it takes quite a bit of effort to refine uranium to the point necessary for weapons, and so far they've only attained minimal enrichment. Unless we've totally missed the centrifuge system necessary for the enrichment to occur, then Iran had to obtain the weapons grade uranium from somewhere else. Not a nice thought.
If they've processed it on their own, then the US must strike Iranian facilities NOW before they can attain a weaponized system as well as more enriched uranium. There is little other choice if we are to avoid a nuclear war in the middle east that could spread beyond that area, as well as nuclear blackmail and control of the oil producing countries of the Persian gulf region.
Overall Summary and Comments
Things have been “relatively” quiet, most likely due to the Sabboth. I don’t place much measure in the cease fire plan, Hezbollah unlikely as Israel to accept it. Olmert and the Israeli cabinet are still unable to back-up their words with a ground offensive. Their ineptness shows in the continued rocket attacks.
Ground Operations
No real significant changes to the penetration into Lebanon from yesterday (see picture below). Heavy fire was reported being exchanged between IDF forces and Hezbullah in the village of Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is inflicting high casalities due to its use of guided anti-tank rockets.
Israeli commandos clash with Hezbollah fighters in the Lebanese city of Tyre. The reported target was the Hezbollah cell responsible for the rocket launchings from that city. Several commandos were reportedly wounded in the assault.
Air OperationsB The IDF on Saturday broadcast warnings to the residents of the Lebanese coastal city of Sidon, recommending they leave their homes and move northward, in order to evade an impending attack. In the past 36 hours, the IAF carried out some 160 air strikes against Lebanon, the army said on Saturday. The army spokesman's office said fighter pilots flew 88 missions on Friday, and more than 70 so far on Saturday.
Rocket Attacks
Hezbollah continues to use the barrage method of fire, resulting in higher casualites. Accordingly, the total number of rockets fired continues to be at a high rate. Three died when a rocket hit a house in the Israeli Arab village of Arab al-Aramshe. Earlier, 10 rockets smashed into the northern outskirts of Haifa, Israel's third largest city, wounding five people and damaging cars and buildings. Hizbollah fired dozens more rockets that struck northern Israeli villages including Kiryat Shmona and Maalot as well as the city of Nahariya.
There are reports that a rocket has hit 28 miles north of Tel Aviv not yet confirmed. If true, this is the most southern missile strike that has occurred.
Reference to yesterday’s deepest rocket strike, the figure below shows the ranges of the rocket assets Hezbollah has.
Central Israel on Heightened Alert
IDF says should the need arise residents of areas south of Haifa will be warned one minute prior to landing of rocket or rockets. Colonel Yechiel Kuperstein, head of the Home Front Command's defense department, said the new procedures issued for residents south of Haifa apply to all residents on Israel's coastline plane, including Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv is out of the range of the Fajr-5s that hit north of it yesterday. The concern continues to be the Zelzal-2 rocket, a variant of the older Soviet FROG missile. This is an inertial guidance missile that, at its maximum range, can hit within about 100 yards of its intended target. It can carry a 1000 lb warhead of high explosive, chemical, biological or even nuclear. It is vulnerable because it uses a large truck to carry the rocket and launcher, as such it is hard to hide. However it can be set up an launched from a pre-selected site within 15 minutes. The most likely launching sites are in the Bekaa Valley, far enough away from any likely IDF ground offensive to be relatively safe. However, the IAF has been seeking these rockets and launchers out and it is believed that they have hit a substantial number of them.
If Hezbollah carries out its threat to strike Tel Aviv, this will be the system used. Because of its range, it is nearly a stratigic weapon which may result in an Israeli strike at Syria and/or Iran, who has openly admitted that they have supplied Hezbollah with the system.

Ditto here. These are the same evil people who can't wait to execute prisoners to harvest the organs of prisoners for sale to the highest bidder. It is beyond me why anyone with a conscience would want to attend or participate in the upcoming Olympics to be held in China. I have no doubt what they do to dogs would happen to people in countries they consider "too free" if they were given half the chance.
It may be a small token of rebellion on my family's part, but items with tags "made in China" remain in the store and do not knowingly come home with us.

I've been monitoring the reports regarding Hezbollah use of AT missiles. Hezbollah has employed them effectively, for the level of effort IDF has been putting forward. The IDF has experience from the '73 war, but this is the first use of second generation missiles against them. Now, I say at the current level of effort. If Israel were to advance tactically, there would be supporting artillery fire that will keep most of these missiles supressed. Throw in some extra smoke and they can no longer be tracked by the shooters. Since Israel has been rather static, they leave themselves open to shots from 3 km away against softer sided APCs.

The group's lawyer says about 950 members of Gamaa Islamiya have been released over the last 10 days. The largest group, several hundred, were freed Tuesday, in honor of a Muslim holiday marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Those released include several senior figures, some of whom have been imprisoned for more than 20 years.
Gamaa Islamiya was once Egypt's largest militant Islamist group, responsible for a string of terrorist attacks in the 1990s, including the 1997 attack in Luxor that killed 58 foreign tourists and four Egyptians.
The group's leaders renounced violence and entered into a truce with the government in the late 1990s. Hundreds of its members have been released over the last few years, but never quite this many."

Today's Al Qaeda Tape: Ayman al Zawahiri and the "Islamic Group"

Today's announcement by Al Qaeda second in command Dr. Ayman al Zawahiri that the multinational terror conglomerate has been joined by a portion of the Egyptian group "Jamaa Islamiya" is both puzzling and not surprising.
It is unclear how large the faction is from Jamaa Islamiya that is aligning itself with Al Qaeda. Neither Zawahiri nor Mohamed Khalil Hukayma, who made the announcement for Jamaa Islamiya, was clear about how many members were involved in the merger, although Zawahiri did refer to of the large crowd and the majority of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya, in the following statement:
Abu Jihad Al-Masri, Mohamed Khalil Hukayma who assures the Muslim nation in this message the steadfastness of the large crowd and the majority of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya are on the true path of Jihad against the enemies of Islam, crusaders, Jews and their treacherous agents
Ayman al Zawahiri made his debut into the international terrorism arena as a member of Jamaa Islamiya. He served time in prison in Cairo for his role in the group's assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.
In his book "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner", Zawahiri provides a comprehensive eyewitness history account of the group and its activities.
In today's tape, Zawahiri addresses the 1996 decision by Jamaa Islamiya to cease operations in Egypt, saying:
A faction of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya was influenced by unknown pressures. They went along with the Egyptian and American governments in their claims deviating from the true path of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya's beliefs that are based on God's spoken word & the prophet's traditions.
In "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner", Zawahiri writes of the beginning of the no-violence initiative:
The beginnings of the no-violence initiative, or the halting of operations, began with an appeal made by Khalid Ibrahim, leader of the Islamic Group's Aswan branch, who was a defendant in the Islamic Group case in Aswan in April 1996. He notes that the Islamic Group made another appeal in July 1997 in the name of the Islamic Group's leaders who are still serving jail terms at the Turrah and al-Aqrab prisons. It called on the Islamic Group's members inside Egypt and abroad to halt military operations and to stop issuing statements inciting such operations.
One of the most intriguing portions of the book is where Zawahiri describes his split with the group, disagreeing with the cessation of Jamaa Islamiya's activities in Egypt. He describes the pressures more thoroughly in "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner", and makes clear his disagreement with the agreement:
Sayyid Qutb, the most prominent theoretician of the fundamentalist movements, said: "Brother, push ahead, for your path is soaked in blood. Do not turn your head right or left but look only up to heaven."
The objective has been somewhat shaken by the fact that the Islamic Group was dragged into a stance where it halted armed jihadist action under the name of (the initiative to halt military operations). This initiative has had serious repercussions. Because all persons, those who are and those who are not connected with the issue, have begun debating the initiative, I have decided to discuss it with some frankness and in some detail. I apologize to my brothers in the Islamic Group-whom I respect and love-for disagreeing with their view and criticizing their opinions. However, in my efforts to properly interpret shari'ah, I find that doing what is right is dearer to me than these brothers' love.
Both Zawahiri and Hekayma cite Egyptian cleric Omar Abdel Rahman as one of the leaders of the faction that is joining al Qaeda. This isn't surprising. Zawahiri says in his book that Abdel Rahman initially supported the cessation of activities, but later changed his mind. In "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner", Zawahiri writes:
in June 2000 Dr. Omar Abdel Rahman issued a statement from his jail that was relayed by his lawyer Lynn Stewart in which she said that Shaykh Omar was withdrawing his support for the no-violence initiative because it had not brought any positive results for the Islamists.
Zawahiri continues to write:
Dr. Omar Abdel Rahman's clear assessment of the situation is an eloquent reply to the third statement issued by the brother leaders in the Turrah jail in which they said that they "cling to their position on halting armed operations and any announcements that incite armed operations inside Egypt and abroad." They noted that this "announcement is not the product of negotiation with the security services or other government departments but is in line with Islamic shari'ah and serves the interests of the Muslims."
It appears that by joining forces with Al Qaeda formally and officially, that Jamaa Islamiya has ended it's ceasefire with the Egyptian government.
The threats of attacks against the United States and United States interests abroad by Jamaa Islamiya must also be considered.
In "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner", Zawahiri describes a plot to assassinate the delegation of United States Presidents attending Anwar Sadat's funeral:

Isam thought about attempting to hit the funeral of Anwar al-Mujahideen, including the (former) Presidents of the United States and the leaders of Israel. He also thought about seizing some tanks and using them to hit a vital target or attack Mujahideen's funeral.
However, the resources available were short of his ambitions and it was too late. Our meetings with Abbud al Zumur ended with an advice to him to try to leave Egypt at this stage to continue the attacks at another stage.
However, Abbud turned down our advice because he had promised the brothers to continue the battle. In prison, he admitted to me that he had been convinced by our opinion, but his promise to the brothers compelled him to turn it down.
Isam had a theory about jihad action that he tried hard to find the means to implement, but destiny would not permit him.
This theory continues to represent a suitable practical option, if the requirements for it are available, including:
· The security measures taken by our regimes are such that the only way to confront them is to deploy an armed force with a considerable firepower and armor enough to enforce its control of the capital, wage battles, and remain steadfast for one or two weeks.
· The Islamic movement possesses thousands of youths who are racing toward martyrdom, but these youths are not trained and lack combat experience.
· The Islamic movement's infiltration of the Army will always be countered by purging operations. It is difficult for the Islamic movement to recruit a large number of officers in the Army without getting discovered, in view of the tight security measures within the ranks of the Armed Forces.
· Isam's idea was to train hundreds of Muslim youths on weapons and how to use and drive tanks, even if it was a preliminary training.
· Isam looked lightly upon the police forces, the Central Security Forces, and the forces affiliated with the Interior Ministry.
· Isam criticized the Muslim youths for being preoccupied by the police and attacks on the police and for failing to examine the military situation from an analytical and practical perspective based on data.
· Isam had much confidence in the young Muslim trainees. He used to say: The police forces have the upper hand against us because our brothers are not trained. If we train them and give them some weapons, nobody could stand against them.
This theory continued to be the subject of long discussions between us before and in prison. Many of his expectations proved to be valid, I must say

His plan was a daring plan based on careful reconnaissance and scientific analysis of the realistic information. It suited Isam's personality, which had the same elements: Bravery, military knowledge, and hard work. This theory involveed many details and various aspects, but I just talked about its pivotal idea in passing.
Zawahiri lists the leaders of Jamaa Islamiya who are joining Al Qaeda:
But God willing, the principal core of Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya headed by the honorable sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman & Sheikh Rifaii Taha may God release them from their captivity.
Zawahiri describes Rifa'i Taha as the "Military Commander" of Jamaa Islamiya. He writes:
Brother Rifa'i Ahmad Taha also commented on the initiative. He rejected it when it was first made and later repeated his rejection after Shaykh Umar announced that he was withdrawing his support for it. He told Al-Sharq al-Awsat:
"Regarding the case of Umar Abd-al-Rahman, the Islamic Group's spiritual leader who is detained in a US jail, the policy of talking and making threats is over. We will address the United States in a language that it understands. We will break his shackles and release him from captivity. I believe that the time to do so is drawing near."
Asked if the Islamic Group might revise its past errors, Rifa'i Taha said: "In answer to your question-if I have understood it correctly--if the Islamic Group has altered its methods and is revising its past errors, my answer is this: The Islamic Group does not believe that it made errors in the past whether in its call to jihad, in its promotion of virtue and prohibition of vice, or in its call to God's religion."
It is indisputable that Ayman Zawahiri just reiterated the call to Egyptians loyal to Jamaa Islamiya to join the Islamic ummah in its jihad.
What remains to be seen is how many of Jamaa Islamiya's followers will heed this call.

Egyptian Arabic pronounces the G hard as in get
Classical Arabic, and Arabic throughout most of the Arabic speaking world pronounces G like a "J"
The Arabic spelling is the same; I translate it as I hear it. Zawahiri, although Egyptian, in his tapes uses the more classical Arabic prounciation so that's why I spelled it that way.
Gamaa and Jamaa are the same word.
Kinda like I pronounce "water" as "warter" and you pronounce it as "wahter" but we both mean that liquid that comes out of the tap :)
I will never be able to volcalize the words. You have heard me try :))

Yep, that's what I was reinforcing - that G and J are interchangable (except in the case of GH - that's a different sound).
