I'm putting together my bug-out bag and have a quick question. I have lots of soup that expired Feb 2006. Do you think that this stuff is still good, and if so, how long? I don't want to throw it away unless it is unfit to eat.
Thanks!

I would think it would be good for up to a year past the expiration. If an emergency arises and you need to go to your rations, you can always open it and pretty much tell if it's good. I bet appalachian_dweller would know. He's usually up on the survival info. Haven't seen him around lately.

Is it canned or the dry soup in the packets? If its canned, and the cans are not dented, I would keep it. Don't forget to put a manual can opener in your bug out bag.

If the lids are not bulging, I'm sure it is still quite safe. But, the quality of taste might have diminished a bit.

If in doubt, call Campbell's.

Is it dehydrated or in cans? Dehydrated will last a lot longer of course. But canned will go for a long time too as long as it has been kept in a cool dark place. Of course if you detect any bulges in the can get rid of it immediately. Also, any cans that have been dented should be discarded as well. Otherwise you should be good to go for awhile. How long I'm not 'ZACTLY sure. Six months. Maybe a year....maybe more....but not much more....

Well I see you have been given some good answers. My opinion is that this stuff will usually keep for at least a year past the experation date. Longer if you were starving to death. Best thing to do is cycle it. Eat it and then go buy more.
