Had he not committed suicide, German forces in the immediate vicinity might have held out for an additional day or two but never-the-less, he would have been killed or taken captive by the Red Army within the week.

Operation Barbarossa doesn't mean anything. If WW2 was a plan to overtake Germany from the inside out, Operation Barbarossa would be useful in troop depletion.
