"...but this is a moderate state in general with religious tolerance etc.....we got Syria out of there, and if we can get any armed militia out....well, let's just say I still see some moderation there.....the Christians and Druze hate the Hezzies...no matter what you hear on the news..."

I think your analysis has a lot of truth to it. The problem I see is after the shooting stops. How do you keep the terrorists out of the govt. and from sneaking right back in? We do nothing to support the few remaining Christians in the area.

I think you've summed it up!

However, I was thinking about this, and if they are going to start treating the Hezzies as a state, wouldn't that let Israel formally declare war on them? This would also force actual states, in the traditional sense of the word, to pick a side.

"SOME Lebanese Christians may be pro-U.S. and even pro-Israel, but they are too afraid, weak and small to make a difference."

I have a better idea, I found it on Dr. Phil's website. It's the Anti-Bullying Pledge. Some of the words will have to be changed, as the world is not a school, and the parties involved are not students, etc. "Kids being kids" will have to be changed to "Palestinians being Palestinians", and "Kidnapping, and Annhilation Threats" will have to be added to the descriptions of what Bullying is, and so on. It seems so simple, doesn't it?

..and in #4, "a faculty member" should be replaced with "the UN", if things were as they are supposed to be.

Anyway, here it is (cut and pasted):

Anti-Bullying Pledge

We the students of ______________________________ agree to join together to stamp out bullying at our school.

We believe that everybody should enjoy our school equally, and feel safe, secure and accepted regardless of color, race, gender, popularity, athletic ability, intelligence, religion and nationality.

Bullying can be: pushing, shoving, hitting, and spitting, as well as name calling, picking on, making fun of, laughing at, and excluding someone.

Bullying causes pain and stress to victims and is never justified or excusable as "kids being kids," "just teasing" or any other rationalization. The victim is never responsible for being a target of bullying.

By signing this pledge, we the students agree to:

1. Value student differences and treat others with respect.

2. Not become involved in bullying incidents or be a bully.

3. Be aware of the school's policies and support system with regard to bullying.

4. Report honestly and immediately all incidents of bullying to a faculty member.

5. Be alert in places around the school where there is less adult supervision such as bathrooms, corridors, and stairwells.

6. Support students who have been or are subjected to bullying.

7. Talk to teachers and parents about concerns and issues regarding bullying.

8. Work with other students and faculty, to help the school deal with bullying effectively.

9. Encourage teachers to discuss bullying issues in the classroom.

10. Provide a good role model for younger students and support them if bullying occurs.

11. Participate fully and contribute to assemblies dealing with bullying.

I acknowledge that whether I am being a bully or see someone being bullied, if I don't report or stop the bullying, I am just as guilty.

Wow. After previewing my post, I'm convinced that if Dr. Phil were to step in, the Bullies wouldn't have a chance.

Here's how it goes, if Iran gives the Hezbos a nuke and they wipe out Tel-Aviv, Israel will have the right to use a tank and knock out a Lebanese bridge but anymore than that would be a violation because it could lead to civilian deaths.

I agree with all you've said...so...we get them to change alot of that....yes, they were too weak to get rid of Hezzies....and actually the French helped alot in getting Syria out of Lebanon...and yes, even though Lahoud is a Syrias puppet....the constitution still says those three main posts have to be divided up....We will mold the behavior as best we can....and you'll see, I bet we help build up Lebanon.....as long as they do what is required

Just heard n MSNBC the Hezbos just rejected the proposal before it was proposed.

How long will it be before MSNBC blames Israel for "escalating the violence" even though Hezbollah rejected the terms? 10 minutes?

Statehood still doesn't cahnge the human shield problem.

Until countries like the US and Israel are willing to stop apologizing for killing civilians who are either complicitous or the victims of terrorists who put them in vulnerable positions where they will be killed, the terrorists as militia or states win.

Why don't we concentrate on having Israel get their soldiers back and soundly defeat Hizb'allah in the meantime.

I do not support aiding Lebanon until they clean house.

...yes...I know....I never thought it would be easy.. but memories can be short or long.....remember just last year, when Hariri (not spelled right) was assisinated and U.S. helped step up pressure....there were some in the streets thanking the U.S.....I think their emotions go with whatever is happening.....so let's see if we can be allies in the long run...hell,....we can always bomb them....The Iranians are the ones trying to become the players in the Mid East....everyone is secondary IMHO

I'm with you on this thinking, but the question that has to be resolved is will we ignore political correctness and do what's in our best interest?

I agree in a more pragmatic approach to the middle east. If Lebanon can be firmly brought around to our side should we sign a treaty with them guaranteeing the sovereignty of their territory from ALL invaders?

Exactly, who are we to settle the affairs of another nation? Israel should be telling France and USA each to butt out.

Let's just see....all things aside they don't want Syria in there....and it was only cause of their weakness that Hezzie was still around....so I'm thinking like you, if we do this right....we could kill two birds with one stone.. Iran is a different matter all together.....they may need the screws put to them...

Israel is killing terrorists. Since we are in a war to defeat worldwide terrorism, we should be giving Israel military assistance.

I agree! Does anybody see Israel turning over the land they've cleared(and lost soldiers over) of Hezbollah to an army led by France? Does anybody see Hezbollah disarming cause the UN is asking them to?!...........Neither do I.

This whole UN deal is a fiasco.

Bolton cannot be happy about this. He's following the Condi game plan.
