The intent is obvious. The MSM is trying to save old Joe.

That's possible, but I think the opposite may be true, at least in some cases.  In my preview thread yesterday I speculated on the motives behind the shows emphasizing the Connecticut race.  I listed ABC as "conflicted," because of Steponallofus' loyalty to the Clintons and the Clintons support for Joe.

I think that the rest of the DBM are pushing for Lieberman's ouster as part of a Stalinist purge of those who are "ideologically impure."  They have been captured by the cult of Kos and the church of MoveOn.ORG.

I live in the DC area. The WP has endorsed Lieberman and many of the WP columnists are wringing their hands about how terribly Lieberman has been treated. Cohen, Broder, et. al., don't agree with the demonization of Lieberman. Today, even Robert Kagan came out supporting Lieberman, calling him "the last honest man."

The NYT has endorsed Lamont. The MSM is split, but leaning towards Lieberman. The Hartford Courant (largest paper in the state and 54th largest in the US) and the Connecticut Post also back Lieberman.
