He served. He lost limbs in a training accident. That qualifies as a hero to anyone who doesn't have an ideological axe to grind.

He served. He injured himself, which happens...but heroes don't go around acting like they got their wounds in combat when they were self-inflicted. Heroes don't self-righteously pimp themselves like Cleland does.
