Medicare is not free. Everyone pays into it every month. If the gubmint would keep its mitts off both Medicare and SS, the programs would last alot longer. Besides paying into Medicare, we pay into a supplemental health insurance plan, the premium now higher to allow for the new compulsory prescription drug coverage. Co-Pays have shot up, too. Since Federal Medicare went into effect, health care costs have skyrocketed. I expect the same thing will happen to prescription drug costs in time. I remember when everyone could afford good health care. And a dollar went 98% further, too.

That's 20 years earlier than the Social Security fund is expected to become insolvent

Of course, the SS trust fund is an accounting fiction, but don't let that stop the author.

Health Savings Accounts are great - but only as long as you are young, healthy, and single.

A 2-1/2 hour trip to emergency room cost me $1,800 with an HSA.

Back to traditional insurance next year!
