Reuters cameraman being held without charge in Baghdad's notorious Abu Ghraib prison is to be detained for a further six months while the US military reviews his case. By Claire Cozens. A Reuters cameraman being held without charge in Baghdad's notorious Abu Ghraib prison is to be detained for a further six months while the US military reviews his case.

Ali Omar Abrahem al-Mashhadani has been in custody since he was arrested by US forces on August 8, and a military tribunal held in secret this week ruled that he should be held for another six months.

Another Reuters cameraman, Haider Kadhem, who was wounded in a shooting incident at the weekend, is also being held by the US military.

The military is refusing to disclose why it is holding Kadhem, who was arrested on Sunday following a shooting incident that killed his colleague, soundman Waleed Khaled.

Reuters has demanded the release of both journalists, and today David Schlesinger, global managing editor for the news organisation, said he was "shocked and appalled" by the decision to continue to detain al-Mashhadani without charge and without allowing him access to legal representation of his choosing.

"I call on the authorities to release him immediately or publicly air the case against him and give him the opportunity to defend himself," he said.

This man plays prominently in the Haditha story--But I do wish that when people posted old stories they clearly notified the rest of us that this is not a current report.

After trial of course.

There were FReepers today who have no problems with journalists siding with the enemy. Even when that enemy is an underground terrorist network.

And if that seems "harsh", ask them why they don't contribute the whereabouts of these cells to the authorities.

If it is because they wish to remain "impartial", that is false. They wish to protect criminals from capture. They have chosen a side and that is the one of evil.

If they are caught with the terrorists, kill them on the spot. that is what should be done. If we catch them later or arrest them on other evidence. Trial first, then firing squad.

Yeah, Rooters has a lot of room to talk about being shocked. I am angry about this too, but it's because all of Rooters staff isn't behind bars.

Is there a Guiness Book of World Records entry for naked pyramid building?

Can we challenge DU and Salon?

I believe it was one of these "local" photogs that was the first one on-scene of one (or more?) of the "atrocities" claimed to be made by some of our guys (Haditha, etc.). In fact the one at Haditha I believe the reporter had been held earlier by us, as well as the doctor who provided the descriptions of the deceased (the doc had been held on suspicion of treating the terrorists).

Their photoshopping is so bad it should be considered an atrocity!
