If Republicans realize their candidate has no chance they can cross over and vote for Lieberman. As an Independent, Lieberman can be a true moderate in the Senate. The last poll I saw on this of registered voters in Connecticut said Lieberman would win a three-way general election.

I read on another thread that John Fund (of the WSJ) said that Pres. Bush has made it clear, behind the scenes, that he would not object to GOP donors opening their pocketbooks for a Lieberman run.
