Ed Koch: I'm Backing Independent Lieberman

New York's "Mayor for Life" and one of the country's most prominent Democrats says he's backing Joe Lieberman's independent run for U.S. Senate.

"There's no blood oath binding him not to run as an independent," Edward Koch told NewsMax.

Koch predicts that Lieberman, running as an independent, would win the general election handily. He also noted that Lieberman would continue to caucus with Democrats when he takes his seat in the Senate.

Even though he's in trouble with the extreme left wing of his party, Lieberman, like most Democrats, was right to support President Bush on the War in Iraq, says Koch.

"The issue of terrorism is the only issue on which I agree with the president, but it goes to the issue of the survival of this country, to its very existence," he explained...

He most definitely did, Ed Koch spoke at the Republican Convention in 2004, and backed Bush 100%

I was a young kid and hated him when he first came into office, but liked him more and more every year. He is a classic. Ed is a-ok in my book. If I was in nyc, I'd vote for him!

everyone always hates the current mayor. guys get off the plane from Ghana to sell stuff on the street, the first words they learn on the way to Manhattan is "Fu@k (insert name of mayor here)."

If I were Lieberman I wouldn't caucus with the Dems. And as was suggested on another thread, if I were the GOP I'd make a deal with him so he doesn't.

Ok. That's 2 demoncrats that I can support. Koch and Leiberman. The core of the Democratic Party that I knew in the '60s is standing up. Good for them. I still don't like their positions, but they ARE American. And don't overtly try to overthrow the elected government.
