Well, first whomever sold the ammunition committed a felony by selling to an "un-documented" person. No FOID Card. Second, ammunition bought without a FOID is a crime.

FOID card? WTF is an FOID card? I've never had to show any kind of ID at all to buy ammo. Teen-agers can buy .22 ammo. What dictatorial tyranny do you live in?

My Grandpa lived in Illinois and had to have an FOID card. It's not only licensing and registration of where the guns are, but it's a particularly useful tool for the government to discourage firearms ownership and to create conditions whereby owners can innocently find themselves in trouble. If you don't have it with you and you have a gun, even locked in the trunk and disassembled, you're in trouble and they can take all your guns. If you forget to renew it, you're in trouble and they can take all your guns. Simply do nothing, and in a couple of years you automatically become a criminal.
