and many bore Muslim names.
...
The bank released the following names: Abdula Ahmed Ali, Cossor Ali, Shazad Khuram Ali, Nabeel Hussain, Tanvir Hussain, Umair Hussain, Umar Islam, Waseem Kayani, Assan Abdullah Khan, Waheed Arafat Khan, Osman Adam Khatib, Abdul Muneem Patel, Tayib Rauf, Muhammed Usman Saddique, Assad Sarwar, Ibrahim Savant, Amin Asmin Tariq, Shamin Mohammed Uddin, and Waheed Zaman..
Ok, I'll bite, which of the names above are not Muslim?
I know that Patel is a very common last name in a certain part of India and in the hotel business in the US, but I would say a Patel with the first name of Abdul would sound Muslim to most of us.

Patel is an Indian name. It literally means landowner.
Osman Adam Khatib
This could quite possibly be a Christian name.

No joke. To say "many bore Muslim names" is but a verbal fillagree.

Yes a Muslim of Sindhi/Punjabi/Gujarati descent can be a Patel. The surname is symbolic of a social standing in older Indian feudal society. His ancestor must have been a small land-owner.
