'Cease-fire,' then destroy
Scripps-Howard ^ | 8/10/06 | Editorial

We note Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent discussion of his "solution" to the Mideast crisis: Destroy Israel. - In a speech calling for an immediate cease-fire in Israel's war against the Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon, he declared, "(T)he main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime." -

It is the world's responsibility to take the Iranian leader at his word until he proves he does not mean it. His country has supplied Hezbollah with weapons and money to carry on a proxy war against Israel. And Iran is racing to develop nuclear weapons and otherwise emerge as the dominant power in the Muslim world, while threatening, in explicit language, to eliminate Israel. Iran is behaving so menacingly, in fact, that it has alarmed even such other Muslim regimes as those of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. -

Festering anti-Semitism survives in Europe and, of course, the Mideast. Israel is often bitterly condemned for defending itself, as in the war with Hezbollah, while its enemies _ now firing hundreds of rockets solely to kill Israeli civilians _ get much more sympathetic treatment in the court of world opinion.

Meanwhile, as the conflict in Lebanon dominates the headlines, the United Nations Security Council has finally passed Resolution 1696, threatening Iran with sanctions unless that country halts _ by month's end _ uranium enrichment and other efforts to develop the nuclear bomb. Iran denounced the United Nations for even this relatively mild warning. The Iranian ambassador to the U.N., Javad Zarif, said that the resolution was "destructive and totally unwarranted," and could "only exacerbate the situation." Another Iranian official said that if the sanctions were imposed, oil prices would hit $200 a barrel.

Whether actions of a more serious nature will follow is anyone's guess.

It is fair to wonder whether the bribery and other corruption that hindered U.N. action to contain Iraq are now going on in the case of Iran. Many non-Iranian companies have investments in that country, with enough clout (money) to shape their countries' U.N. policies.

Ahmadinejad's remarks also underscore the folly of imposing a "cease-fire" before Israel significantly weakens Hezbollah's capacity to attack Israeli citizens. An immediate cease-fire would not be about peace. As Ahmadinejad has so transparently revealed, it would be a step on the way to the destruction of Israel.

We should kick Iran to pieces and burn them to the ground. How many people do we have to lose before we realize this?

Muslims were only a curiosity until they got money from their oil. Now, it's not so funny.

Re-colonization of the Middle East and the entire continent of Africa by the West would do the world more good than anything. Coulter had the right idea just after 9-11. If that happened, it could be tough to sell all the bonds to keep up the runaway social spending of the compassionate "conservatives", but I digress.

If I can still post the afternoon of August 11, I'll say FR is the home of common sense and "independent, grass roots conservatism". If not, I made it 42 years on this earth without FR, and figure I can make it a few more years in the same condition.

"(T)he main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime." -

The actual Persian word he used was "final."

Mike Wallace agrees that the solution is for the Zionists to be eliminated from the middle east so as not to offend the arabs with their presence.

Why yes, there are three differences.
1) Kill not convert their leaders.
2) Convert not kill their populations.
3) Islam is a false religion.
