I don't get it. 3 days ? It seems they should have been at the crash site.

The chopper dropped into a large lake in al Anbar region. I suspect it may have been the lake close to ar Ramadi and Hadith. This lake I believe is still under US Marine control to keep the dam from being blown up by goons.
Another very sparsely worded article said they had to recover them from the lake. So that is why it took so long.
