Sheehan Taken To Emergency Room (8/11/06)
KWTX ^ | 08/11/2006

Posted on 08/11/2006 5:17:43 PM PDT by LA Woman3

(August 11, 2006)—Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan was being treated Friday evening in the emergency room of Providence Health Center in Waco.

Sheehan, who has been on a liquids-only diet for 37 days as part of a fast in protest of the war, was described as being gaunt and pale as she arrived at the hospital.

An assistant said Sheehan, who flew to Central Texas after a trip with other activists to Jordan to meet with members of Iraq’s new parliament, was being treated for exhaustion.

Sheehan, whose 24-year-old son Casey died in Iraq in 2004 while serving with Fort Hood’s 1st Cavalry Division, returned to Central Texas last week, after purchasing a 5-acre tract in the Crawford area.

She again took up her vigil in the area of the president’s Central Texas ranch, where afternoon temperatures have been at or above the century mark.

Heat prostration, or heat exhaustion, is characterized by mental confusion, muscle cramps, and often nausea or vomiting. At this stage the victim will likely be sweating profusely. With continued exposure to ambient heat, which sometimes is facilitated by the mental confusion, temperature may rise into the 39 to 40 °C range (103 to 104 °F), and lead to full-blown heat stroke.

One of the body's most important methods of temperature regulation is perspiration. Evaporation of water is endothermic; therefore, perspiration is an efficient way to rid the body of excess heat. When the body becomes sufficiently dehydrated to prevent the production of sweat, this avenue of heat reduction is closed. When the body is no longer capable of sweating, core temperature begins to rise swiftly.

Victims become more confused, may become hostile, often have headaches, and may seem drunk. Due to dehydration, blood pressure may drop significantly, leading to possible fainting or dizziness, especially if the victim stands suddenly. As blood pressure drops, heart rate and respiration rate will increase (tachycardia and tachypnea) as the heart attempts to supply enough oxygen to the body. The skin will become red as blood vessels dilate in an attempt to increase heat dissipation. As heat stroke progresses, the decrease in blood pressure will cause blood vessels to contract, resulting in a pale or bluish skin colour. Complaints of feeling hot may be followed by chills and trembling, as is the case in fever. Some victims, especially young children, may suffer convulsions. Acute dehydration such as that accompanying heat stroke can produce nausea and vomiting; temporary blindness may also be observed. Eventually, as body organs begin to fail, unconsciousness and coma will result.

Under very rare circumstances, a person may exhibit symptoms similar to heat stroke without suffering a heat stroke.

I can appreciate your being appalled by the comments about Comrade Cindy, however I hasten to point out that the only thing going on here is that Ms. Sheewhine is reaping what she has sowed.

That disloyal, ignorant cow (with apologies to cows everywhere) has made it her life's mission to spread lies, disinformation and enemy propaganda during a time that America is at war against adversaries that are nothing like anything we've faced before.

Our national survival is at stake, and Cindy Sheehan has chosen to stand with those who would celebrate our collective destruction.

This goes beyond her dishonoring and disgracing her son's name, and shaming her family for her despicable conduct, this is about her continuous attempts to undermine our national leadership, to give aid and comfort to our enemies, to employ any gimmick or scam that she thinks might advance the far left hate-America agenda which she obviously embraces.

I have not one whit of sympathy for that b*tch, nor would I shed one tear at waking up tomorrow morning and seeing her obituary.

Although I would be distressed that the left would have yet another martyr in the tradition of Rachel Corrie.

She had the mental confusion before she went to Texas.

You may not believe this but this has been one of the mildest summers down here in Texas in memory. Lots of rain and not a single 100+ day so far. I say so far its early yet. That would be SE TX for you folks out in W TX.

I can't stand what this woman has been doing anymore than the next gal, but I am absolutely appalled by the comments on this thread.

I agree wishing she would die is a little over the top, but I have no compassion for a woman that stalks our president and refers to him as "the cowardly cowboy wanna-be in chief."

" I hope she joins her Casey "

I don't wish her dead--and I certainly don't wish her to join him again when she dies--(IF she remains the way she is and doesn't repent)--

Because I hope Casey is in HEAVEN.

Hopefully she will be fine. Prayers up to her. Come on we should not be hoping she dies or get sick. We are better than that. I know she is one nutty women but we don't have to go down to her level.

You and I are in agreement.

I would much rather her come out of hospital and be arrested, charged, and tried for what she has done.

Exactly right...if you're not use to the Texas Heat...staying out in it more than 10 minutes will take you down fast. Heat stroke is very possible.

"wishing for her to die shows very poorly on this website."

Who says she's dying?
She's faking it.
Entire "hunger strike " is a joke and a cheap publicity stunt.
I am surprised you are falling for her BS.
