Join a network of citizens who are saying Abolish the IRS and Give Us A Fair Tax

About the Petition: It contains more than 55,000 pages … It is so complex that even those who wrote it don’t fully understand it. The “it” is the federal tax code, and more and more Americans are demanding that the time has come to abolish the IRS in favor of a “Fair Tax” system.

I assumed before when you said "mear" whim that it was a typo, but I guess not.

I will freely admit to being an unlikely candidate to win any spelling contests and, for that matter to being a Christian, patriot, lover of liberty, and passionate opponent of the communist inspired income tax and the gestapo IRS.

Anything else?

Many will find the prebate compelling and register to recieve it but others won't and, just as I said, no one is reguired to register for it.

LOL, yeah right. Who is not going to find $5000 a compelling enough reason to register? Bill Gates maybe. Or perhaps the unabomber. You guys are unbelievable. You would not concede the sky is blue and the grass is green. You'll fight for any lie no matter how stupid you look.

no, I just wanted to point out the correct spelling since you made the same mistake more than once, I never take the time to point out typos. My intent wasn't to insult you.

So, what plan do you support? Why?

IMHO, the problem is government spending up to the limit of credit which seems to be infinite. I think when citizens perceive that government is doing their part in a responsible and transparent way, they are more willing to do their part and pay their taxes.

But when we see companies that cheat the government (taxpayers) getting away with a slap on the wrist and rewarded with still more opportunities to cheat, it creates "a get what you can while the getting is good", "pay to play" culture. Tax breaks are not the only favor lobbyists win from government.

I can't think of a tax system that can't be gamed or become abusive. I have no quick fixes.

There are some few here who apparently subscribe to that idea. That's for sure.

"I you make $10,000 per year and I make $100,000 per year and we both buy a boat for $1,000 at say, 10% tax then we both pay $100.

That $100 is only 0.1% of my income and 1.0% of your income. That's a regressive tax system. "

No, that is a fair tax system. Why should the second man pay more sales tax for the same thing?

The FairTax is a model of efficiency for collecting federal tax. Compared to the income tax, there's a much larger tax base yet has about eighty percent fewer collection points with about one or two percent of the paperwork and one or two percent of man hours required to collect it.

Speaking of looking stupid - hi there!! (Big secret ... the prebate is optional and you're free to not get it since it turns your stomach so)

Actually Looey says he's not going to take the prebate either so if the two of you can work over enough of the limp-brained anti-FairTax crowd to also not "get it", it will help the rest of us by lowering our tax rate. Much appreciated - and mighty "right" of you for a change.

It's a regressive tax. If you pay a larger percent of your income for tax on an item than someone making more than you, then that is a regressive tax.

You have to think in terms of "percent of income."

For all the naysayers out there, please remember that Alan Greenspan supported a national sales tax. His only issue was that the bureaucracy of the government would make it a difficult transition. Difficult, not impossible.

"As you know, many economists believe that a consumption tax would be best from the perspective of promoting economic growth — particularly if one were designing a tax system from scratch — because a consumption tax is likely to encourage saving and capital formation," Greenspan said.

Speaking of fairy taxers, the king of em shows up. He was talking about the government not compelling people to register. I did not say required or optional. But feel free to stick your foot in your mouth by jumping in and have no clue. You guys spew out BS then spin and spin and spin to try to defend. Why not just for once say you are wrong?

"... I have no quick fixes ..."

Nor, apparently, even slow ones. Or - if so - you've failed to articulate them but instead only attacked the FairTax. Doing so doesn't qualify as a fix.

Avacado you should drop this regressive tax argument because it makes no sense whatsoever. The basis for your arguement is frankly an impossible comparison. The low wage earner would not be buying something like that. If indeed someone makes $10,000, all of their money would go to living expenses. Since they would get a prebate up to the poverty level, they actually would pay no taxes at all. So you are wrong. The lowest wage earners would pay no tax. You can call it whatever you want. The fact is that the Fair Tax would generate substantial growth in tax revenues, and promote more spending in our economy.

"You have to think in terms of "percent of income."

I am not a CPA and perhaps do not fully understand the meaning of a 'regressive tax', but no way should a person pay more or less sales tax for an item based on his income.
How is that fair to anyone? You are punishing success. 'How much does this cost?' 'Well, it depends on how much you make.' HUH?!
