Biden tests presidential waters in Waterloo [New Hampshire]

WATERLOO --- All changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born.

Sen. Joe Biden, D-Delaware, borrowed those words of Irish poet William Butler Yeats to sum up the state of the world. Six years ago, he said, America was a land with opportunities.

Then came the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. The invasion of Iraq. A growing deficit. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Turmoil in the Middle East.

"I have never seen anything quite like this," said Biden, a U.S. senator since 1973. "There's never been such international confusion and lacking of (American) leadership."

Biden, who is considering running for his party's presidential nomination in 2008, addressed a crowd of about 80 people Saturday in Waterloo. He attended a re-election reception for State Rep. Don Shoultz, D-Waterloo, at Shoultz's home.

Biden said America needs to restore its place in the world. Biden, the ranking member of the U.S. Committee on Foreign Relations, suggested one step would be talking with the "bad guys," including Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad.

The senator from Delaware also said the country needs to level the playing field socio-economically.

"The Democratic party has a historic opportunity and obligation," Biden said.

Twenty years ago, Biden graced a similar gathering at Shoultz's residence. Biden ran for president in 1988 but dropped out after allegations that he plagiarized part of a speech.

Come on, Joe, you REALLY wanted to say "And then came election day 2000".

The un-plugged one picked an aptly-named town for testing his presidential waters.

Why doesn't he simply wait till after the election, then claim someone else's votes as his own? Works for term papers.

The one that came immediately to my mind was the opportunity to live without X42, an opportunity we haven't realized as fully as I would have hoped.

Don't just "test the waters" Joe

throw away your waterwings and show the whole world just how stupid you really are. Biden and Hagel's combined IQ still doesn't reach the Forrest Gump level.

On one hand, I do admire the liberals.

HOLD YOUR FIRE, let me explain.

Liberals are simply doing what the conservatives did circa 1976, and completed in 1980, when we got Reagan elected.

Conventional wisdom (and still the mantra of the MSM) was that one has to be a "moderate" to be elected. Reagan ran as an unapologetic conservative, and now a GOP candidate has to be a conservative to be elected in many places (yes, I live in Joe Schwarz's district).

Now the liberals are looking at conservatives, and deciding that they CAN be elected if they proudly proclaim their liberalism. They want a Dem candidate to be a liberal in order to be elected.

Perhaps the liberals can learn lessons from conservatives after all?

Did "Plugs" credit Yeats?
('The best remain silent while the worst are filled with . . . intensity.' something like that.)
In any event, the Demo-center will not hold.

First, let's face it, he barely mentions Islamo-fascistism as the enemy. He is a US-basher and appeaser.
